Coupes on the Figure 8 – 6/23/26
This week the MVH Tuesday Night Retro series headed to the Figure 8 to run GT Coupes for the second time in a month. Nine racers teched in to run all eight lanes in the 4-on/5-off format, starting on the inside four and then moving to the outside, all over sixteen heats.
Nine Coupes in Tech:
From the start of the race Noah Ball dominated lap totals (he won the last time out) while Cody Pare’ was posting the fastest laps but having some handling issues. Bob “Woody” Hazelwood wasn’t quite as fast as Cody but did a better job of staying in the slot. By the move to the inside lanes, Woody was running second with 225 laps, three laps down to Noah and one lap up on Cody. Meanwhile, Dave Panich was pacing Cody and was tied for fourth.
There was a twenty-lap gap to fifth, where Rick Pare’ was leading the remainder of the field. His 204 laps put him five laps up on Richard Payne. Steven Sacchetti trailed by eight while Joe Yates and Rolly Lapierre Jr. were battling it out for eighth, with 186 and 185 laps respectively.
Woody picked up the pace after the move to the inside lanes but was unable to close the gap to Noah who took the win by four laps. The tie between Cody and Dave went Cody’s way as he took third by less than a lap. Thirty-five laps out of fourth place, Rick finished fifth with Richard four laps back in sixth. At the back of the field, Steven fell off the pace as both Joe and Rolly got around him to take seventh and eighth.
Cody logged the fastest lap of the night with a 2.742 on purple while Woody had the second fastest lap with a 2.805 on blue. Race winner Noah and also-ran Dave both posted identical 2.954 times, the only other sub 3 second laps.
