I often get auction notices and in these mailings there are disclaimers that the descriptions portrayed in the offering may not be accurate. In the picture below find the error:

At first look, I found that no matter what "view lot" I clicked on, I got the same overview of all the lots. No detailed description. Then I noticed the number of hours listed foe the compressor. That is 271 years of continuous running.

 

2,374,457 hours is 98,937.708 days. That is 271.056 years. A bit more than I would believe. I can't remember any compressor that outlasted me, even in intermittent use. The oldest compressor that I know of that is still being used today is on the Cass Scenic Railroad number 5 Shay locomotive, that was built 120 years ago, and was out of service a total of 16 years. So that compressor has run 104 years. (yes it was rebuilt several times) 

 

My first compressor was one I built from an old Delco car A/C compressor and the motor from Ma's old washing machine. Worked good with a bleeder type spray gun. And one of those old plastic Badger air brushes.

 

My cousin had one like this. Probably from the 1930's since he bought it in the 1950's from a local gas station that had it for years

Yes, Dave is the winner! 271 years ago there wasn't Kaeser Compressors... electricity wasn't a "thing" either....

 

As for old compressors... here at Sonic we have 2 compressors... a Kaeser SM10 (10hp screw compressor) and a Quincy 10hp, 2 stage, 4 cylinder compressor... the compressor head was replaced in the 2000s, the old one deciding its life was at an end...anyways, the Quincy is a 1967ish machine that had a hard life until I bought it at auction in 1980. It was our main compressor until the Kaeser took over. Now, the Quincy is a backup.

Again, looking at the compressor hours... it's **approximate** while having a very specific number of hours of usage. When the number is 7 digits having the ones, tens and hundreds specifically numbered is silly and good for a laugh.
