My tiller disappeared, so I have to use a helm.

When I had the Ferrari, being mid-engined, the shifter gate was situated on the left side of the center hump. That, combined with the fact that you were essentially laying down in the seat, meant that you had to raise your right leg and knee to get into 1st and reverse. That could be a real problem, because you couldn't reach the go pedal with your right foot. Or perform some interesting body twisting to bring your leg back into play. Fortunately, most vintage Ferrari's were designed for Italian race drivers, who, by and large, had long arms and short legs. They didn't have to adopt the "knees in the air" seating position. Enzo obviously was more interested in designing a car that would go fast, and less concerned with driver comfort. Anyway, it was not unusual for me to punch myself in the cajónes while trying to get into first gear.

The 246 version has a much improved longer stick that is bent to the right to make it easier for us long-legged Americans.
