Monarchs were my favorite tracks. We had many of them in New England when I started commercial racing in 1967.

Monarchs were my favorite tracks. We had many of them in New England when I started commercial racing in 1967.
The Monarch track had the most efficient launch ramps any track I have ever raced on. Only if NASA had scaled up those bumps they could have launched rockets from the horizontal.
I still liked racing the orange Monarch tracks. Right-hand banks and left-hand donuts, good. I hated the chicane however.

Racing nightly – those were the days!
So were the local weekly open races... every Saturday night. 15 to 20 entries every weekend, racing until 2 AM Sunday. All in a misspent youth.

Yes I did. They both needed to be experienced to know but there was something about the Orange track's ramps that seemed to be more "launchy". Orange track launches could hit the ceiling, Red tracks were for distance.

I raced on a few orange tracks and never had any issues with launching. Maybe it was the actual track you were racing on?
We did get a lot of distance on the red track. If you landed on the pool table on the opposite side of the raceway that meant your car was very fast! Luckily the pool table was usually used as a coat rack so the landings were soft!
