More magnet question than didn't get answered in 2008

Pertaining to the 13uro,I stabbed a Mura G20 arm in one. I was told that the magnets were too weak and it would need butter*. Now,in the 2008 fourm,it states that the falcon/ playfit mags fiit and also are the best choice. At the time they weren't sold separately but they are now.
Feel free to post on either questions.

I think you're referring to the FT13D as the current FK130 size setups are too short for a G20 arm. I had one in the 60's, and the main problem was the thin magnets were not very strong. I haven't played with one since, but I'm told this was the basis for the "peanut" cobalt magnet motors in the 70's. What's made the FK130 setups so much better now is the available neo magnets, and I believe these should be the same size or at least a decent fit for the 13D. As inexpensive as the neo magnets are today, those would be the ones to use. PS and Koford have essentially created the G20 class arm on the shorter FK blank with their F19 or G19 drag racing offerings. PS has even hotter winds for their Velociraptor neo mags also for drag racing, and I've run both the "Wolf" (24T26) and VXtreme (30T26) on circuit tracks in wing car chassis as well as a F19. They go fast. Should be a good solution for your motor.

I've got a set of magnets from a 103 . I'll try them later and post some pictures. Any suggestions on what air gap to use?

Measure the diameter of the arm you will be using & add .020" to it. That will provide you a .010" air gap on each side.
I've seen photos of modified 13D motors that have had external magnets added to the can sides for extra strength.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Being old school myself and used to many wing car motors, I'd use .010/side airgap myself. I've noticed that many of the production built neo mag motors in the hotter winds are using much more air gap claiming there's too much magnetic field with these magnets. It's also likely that more air gap keeps that high temperature arm away from those temperature sensitive magnets and helps the arm cool better. Doubling the air gap probably won't hurt. I'd see what putting the magnets in without any shims looks like, and if it's not too crazy large space, try that. Solid neos are stronger than the ceramic mags that came with G20's, even stronger than some cobalts.

The hi-temp, solid Neo's, probably have been the most important innovation/new product, to come to slot racing
in the last 10 years.
