2026–2027 INDIANA HOPRA RACING SCHEDULE

 

All events (except the Gary Lohkamp Memorial Gobbler 4-Hour Endurance Challenge) will feature HOPRA Class Rules for Super Stock, Spec Racer, Spec Jet, Gravity, Modified, or CMPM classes. For more information, please see the current HOPRA Rulebook.

 

Seven Events • Twelve Class Races • One Endurance Challenge

 

Each class will use one-minute round-robin qualifying heats to seed four-minute mains.

You may win from any main.

 

Entry Fee: $11.00 for current HOPRA Members • $15.00 for Non-HOPRA Members

The 2026-2027 IN HOPRA Series season has begun!

Here is the report submitted by cub reporter, Mike Thomas:

It was a nice morning and the McWilliams race palace was in great shape for the first race of the season. We were missing any Illinois contingent but we had a trio from Kentucky. Practice was relatively normal for the Super Stock practice on the small Riverside track. Meanwhile there was much concern and drama building around the Cobra track as it was the debut of the modern Modified Class in Indiana HOPRA. Most cars were becoming alarmingly hot after just a few laps. It was a scramble to find taller tires, one top driver appeared to have melted down 3 arms in practice, another ripped his prime set of silicone tires in switching them off a set of rims.

After a sloppy Joe and pasta salad lunch it was time for the Super Stock racing. Tmac showed the way in the one minute heats while the Woollards were close behind. This set up a classic showdown in the 4 minute main. It actually came down to the last segment as those 3 were all within a lap for the final segment. It was Tim that had the strongest finish. Mike Thomas jumped up from 8th to 4th in the main while John Roe was a strong 5th. Also worth note was a good 6th from Mike Swango.

The Modifieds started with some good times, and lots of learning and early it looked like John Roe might be a genius as he decided to run a regular Spec Racer for reliability and familiarity at a good overall pace and won the one minute heats. Drivers continued to adjust their controllers and driving styles, car set ups, especially tire sizes.

After having troubles with a pickup shoe popping off 3 separate times in the qualification heats Mike Thomas switched shoes and lowered his rear tires and put 323 laps to lead the slowest qualifying group. In the second group Tony became unhappy with his handling and started changing tire size set up and never found a happy space. John Woollard put up 287 to lead the second group. In the last group there were generally some more consistently fast lap times and lap totals however John Roe's Spec Racer was having the most success followed by Phil Stevens. However it was Thomas' early run that would hold up, and in demonstrating the learning curve, Brent VanSickel also moved up from the slow qualifiers to grab 4th in the Main.

Many finished the day happy these cars would not be raced again until spring of 27.
