Dolly Parton's death is a heartbreaking thing.
Beneath her famous look was a great country artist, songwriter, and performer. That much alone would have made her passing notable, but even more, she exuded an "everywoman" warmth and down-hominess that made you smile just listening to her speak.
Her seeming generosity of spirit was underscored by her actual generosity too, having given in excess of half a billion dollars to various charitable causes.
Most celebrity deaths don't move the needle for me; hers does.
I was neutral about Dolly until we moved to TN and eventually visited Dollywood. I feel it is far more than just a theme park. You would have to visit Dollywood to fully understand.
RIP, Dolly.
