My good friend Rainer Stanski built this wonderful replica for me. The late Noose painted the body and last night I finished everything to display this piece of art and memory in my showcase.

Stop posting this stuff!!

It’s breaking my heart. Those were the glory days and what real Retro should be.
I’d love to be building and racing those again.

One of the small vintage British slot car magazines has a "how-to" article on building an Emott anglewinder & its chassis jig, I think it was called Model Cars or something similar.

An English friend faxed me the Emott article & a second chassis build in the same issue. I now have a hard copy of that issue I found on eBay.

Real Retro? We're racing older style Retro that for sure is real! LOL.

All of us think "Retro" means "OUR TIME" was Retro. It wasn't.

Retro is a mindset, a vague snapshot of a particular memory at a specific time.  :D

This Forum is filled with beautiful replicas of cars that are representative of static points in time.

They are all Retro.

It would be ridiculous to throw them all together in a race.

When I started at a commercial raceway everything was stock and modified stock, no scratch-building.

That didn't last long.

As Raceways proliferated each one followed the pattern of buy, modify, build:

all with different starting points timewise with different stuff available because everything was changing so rapidly.

Retro as it is structured now simply consolidates and compromises around what is the most fun to those who participate.

Some of us have over 60 years of experience, some hardly any. Those racing who are young have no idea what is or isn't Retro; they aren't old enough.

Build it or buy it, then race it...same as it always has been.

Nice build DJ.

I had a Emott repo body painted by the late J.H.Watson. He had done one or more like yours before. With the white to orange fade.

Boy he and Noose were good painters. RIP guys.

My thinking though after reading the description of the paint scheme was that it would have been a yellow to orange fade. More like a sunset or sunburst which how it was described.

Here is what we came up with.  Please view this comment as no disrespect to your interpretation. I love to see it. :)

Martin,

I love the colors yellow to orange a lot - seeing this body many years ago here at slotblog for the first time.

When I saw Emotts cars in the german "Modellauto" magazine for the first time in 1969, these should become my all time favourites till today.

And when I joined slotblog  37 years later in 2006 I was really impressed and overwhelmed of the pics, articles and constuction reports. Jairus, Tony.P and Rick Thigpen to name a few only.

Here is some more Emott info on my homepage: https://www.jens-slo...---mr-nice-guy/

There is a "Real Vintage" style of retro racing in the UK. From what I recall the cars reflect late 60s / early 70s pro cars. While not an official IRRA class, Jail Door is occasionally run at events. JD looks to me like like pre 1968 style. The rivet counters will weigh in on the exact date.

You got it correct, It would have been easy to follow Bob's build article and build a right hand drive chassis.  But you did your research.

As it would effect the weight balance. I have wondered if Bob choose the left hand drive chassis for that track. Does it make a difference?
