A 20 arm from the old days was machine wound and looked terrible. A modern day 12 is still machine wound, but cnc machine wound. You can't believe they got 50 turns around that stack. I think a good running 12 is very competive with a 20.

Drag cars maybe but definitely not in wing cars...

 

Grp 12 arms are 50 turns of #29 wire on a .350 stack length.  Arm diameter is .518 max and uses ceramic magnets

 

Grp 20 arms are 38 turns of #27 wire on a .440 stack length. Arm diameter is unlimited but should also use ceramic magnets (otherwise it is a 27 arm)

Antknee, said he only wanted to 'go fast' and 'play racer. That is why I recommended a $55.00 Gr- 20 motor for him. If he gets some 'practice' in with a 20 he might be able to get in a Box12 race down the road.

You might buy into someones box program, and get all you need to be ready to race. When it all adds up, slot racing can be expensive, unless you have some help. But if money is not a concern, you can buy things that you might need down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestion I am going to ct for the day And because I'm a passager I will be studying gator bobs worksheet. Getting off topic with wing cars because I have two flexi cars that what I'm probably race well one i will the other one I'm making into a project I don't know if there a class for this but because I'm into model car building I was going to make a custom body from a model kit and attach it to the chassis

If you're thinking of building a "hardbody" (with a model kit) you should take a look at the races Port Jeff has for them.  They seem to get a good crowd, from what I hear

They run 80s and 90s Stock Cars. Doug has them for sale. Buy a RTR Parma 4.5" FCR. They will help you get it race ready. These cars will hone your driving skills. And they look like real cars.

AntKNEE ...  You lost the gr 20 motor ... where did it go?

Note: save all motors to take apart and see what makes them 'tick'.

 

When commercial slot tracks are shortened to fit smaller spaces it is do by removing straight sections.

That would mean you don't fly as far but can still catch the flu..

Well I just left pj and I ruined my ring gear I don't know why it happened it losed and then it sheared I'm not sure why it did that do u guys know why . Well I also left a deposits on a intonations 15 doug the owner brought out a cobalt 12 and a international 15 used and he said he had it on race power the cobalt 2.460 and international 15 2.560 I chose the 15 because they 15 every mouth and cobalt every autom so I chose the 15 I also was talking to another guy he gose there often but he gave me a lot of tips like how they make the group 27 axe holo it's pretty cool the miter has been rebuilt and he said the motor cost $170 alone he sold me a complete rtr car for $150 how can u go wrong I'm probably going to race it but I need to get more money for a better controller me and my dad think it's becase the gear is 10 years old and brittle

Notes:

1. New cars strip gears too.
2. You are not ready for hollow axles and $170 motors.
3. Fix the car you just put the new 20 motor in.
4. Get a DeFalco 30-band controller.... before yours gets any more brittle and sticks wide open. 
5. Get one off MSwiss's "Controller Buddies" ... "spell it"
6. Listen to guys like the one who knows how they make hollow axes.
7. GET spell check your stuff is so hard to read.

Srry for bad spelling I typed this quick and spell check is bad on the iPhone thanks for the tips the new car has a metal gear it a open can motor it smaller then the car I have and that all I can remember. it doesn't have a holo axe there was another guy telling us all about how they make them and how if u hit something ur done the car cost $150 rtr and for a practice/ race car how could u go wrong if I would liked to put a metal gear in this car can I just buy a metal one getting back to the car it was use but the car was completely rebuilt by pj we realize that ever slot car going to break but yesterday was a disaster. So know my dad can have his car back and I get the car I was looking for and be able to race once a (month) Doug also told me all of his cars are competitive because of so Many people coming thing there from around the world

I really would love to blast u with questions my big mistake was not taking pics of the car It looks like a group 7 body it didt have a rib and was flatter then my green body. it's all aluminum chassis and aluminum spur gear the tires were pretty cool big hub and tires were like squared off I think it a koford motor the armature was huge well lol it's a open can also it had ball bearing in the axel. ok here a question can u give me some tips on maintenance And how do I know if I'm pushing to hard because I don't won't to break the car here another question when I put a new spur gear on the other car how do u Aline so it doesn't shear
