A fun day of racing at Slots of Fun in Abbeville, SC on a sunny (and hot) Saturday. As always, Don Berni's place was perfect for racing and fellowship. It was also Don's birthday. So, don't forget to wish Don a Happy Birthday, even a belated one.

 

So, let's go straight to it...

 

First up was our Flexi-GTP class featuring Retro Hawk motors and 11/36 spec gearing. An additional treat on this day was the first appearance by Eddie Fleming of Fayetteville, GA. We hope Eddie will join us often in the future, as he fit in perfectly with the gang. We could see that he'll be a force with which to reckon in upcoming races, as he was picking up on the subtle nuances that the SoF Grandstand offers.

 

On this day, yours truly was fortunate enough to hold on for first with 326 laps, followed closely by Richard Sylvester at 325 and Chris Barnes at 324. Eddie finished with 319 -- very respectable for his first time on the now-famous SoF Grandstand.

 

While Chris and Richard might be accustomed to flying low at such a pace, I was taken by surprise as my car was hooked up in all lanes and seemed to do no wrong. In fact, I can't recall ever logging as many laps in past races of any type. Yes, I felt a bit giddy afterward.

Nice paint jobs by (almost) everyone. Mine was a red & white mistake that turned pink in the painting process, so I chose to make it my Breast Cancer Survivors Special in honor of certain women in my life.

 

Next up was the monthly Retro 7-68 class. Chris Barnes ran away from the field with 317, with Richard Sylvester (308) proving un-catchable for me (305). Again, Eddie posted another impressive performance, proving that he makes a competitive addition to our field of racers.

All in all, another great day of racing that makes us look forward to next month's race. Although we usually race the first Saturday of the month, that date would interfere with the July 4 holiday, so we've pushed it back to the following weekend. We should have another report for you shortly thereafter.

Thx, Don. I'm sure most of it could be attributed to a bad day by the other guys, but I'll hold my head high regardless. In fact, I can't recall ever turning that many laps in any race.

Sounds like you guys had fun!  It woulda been fun to be there, but I'm glad I was where I was!

 

So, have we rescheduled the July race?  If so, for when, and what classes?

Glad to see you two have returned from your world tour...finally. And yes, we had a great time during our June races. We expect July to be even better. As for the date, I believe we all agreed to postpont until July 11. As for the classes, someone else will have to chime in. We might be due for a repeat of the May classes. Hopefully, one of the others will advise.

I was not aware you ran other classes.

Typically, we run the GTP and Can-Am, as we did during your visit. For a while, we tried running F1 but found the third class stretched the day beyond our patience and willingness to tolerate one another.    So, we usually only run two classes.

 

Several months ago, we were joined by a few new faces who are just getting into 1/24 scale. To help them on their way, we participate in a flexi stocker class using 16Ds/S16Ds. We hold this extra class on alternating monthly races when they're present. The other months, they are usually visiting other tracks...kind of a traveling band of slotters.

 

If Steve Adkins or the others are watching this thread, maybe they'll advise whether they'll be able to join us on July 11.
