Great suggestion and something I've done on occasion for bench use. If 3/5/12 works for you, fine... but I rely on a Koford supply for portability and general use. A fair number of tutorials on that ATX project are at instructables.com
Agreed, and I have perused 2 pages worth of search results regarding tutorials on the web for the ATX and have a background in building electronics ( advanced class Amateur radio operator and builder/modifier for 30 years). A tiny light fully adjustable commercial supply is fantastic. Since the gentleman who originated this thread established "home bench supply" as the target and price was being bantered about, I thought this was worth considering. Everyone I know has at least one old desktop laying around that an ATX can be scrounged from and the mod can be done for about $20.
You are right , nothing is as small as the commercial supplies. most of us can't miniaturize that much. They are elegant and packable. No soldering necessary or need to find additional time to alter. Just 10 times the price.
