Back to the "23"...

 

Chassis: new flexible wires, added a washer between the guide flag and the frame, new pick-up brushes and a bit of weight up front.

 

Turns out I had a set of wheels (11/16") for the front to match the rears; but they lifted the front end of the chassis up too high and interfered with electrical contact, so I had to go back to the smaller (9/16") wheels it came to me with. See, if this had a drop arm, I think it would have been okay.       I will be on the look-out for a front section for this style of frame; make the mods needed, and try attaching a drop arm.

 

Runs very nicely; will probably track better with some newer rear tires.

 

Painted and ready for decals and final detail parts...

 

 

...is actually a darker red than the photo shows.

 

Next project should be in tomorrow's mailbox...you're gonna laugh at this one!

Still photographs lighter than it really is.

 

It occurred to me that there were no "headlights" included; just the covers. I drilled a couple of holes and inserted some chrome flat-head screws in place, just to give it the illusion of having "something" in there. The covers hide the fact that they are indeed screws...

 

An easy and satisfying project; quite unlike the next one...as you will see soon enough.

Its a good idea to have a display (case or self) so you feel a sense of accomplishment which fuels the next car.

Still have a few detail parts to obtain to finish the Chaparral; work continues on the Indy Roadster:

 

 

The Strombecker chassis I'm using for this came to me with 2" axles; I swapped those out for 2 1/4", with the intention of ultimately using 2 3/4". Looking at prototype photos, however, I think I will stick with the 2 1/4"...unless I'm told to do otherwise... 

 

...and I have a few other things either in mind or already on the way.

Umm...yes!  I'm quite taken with 1/24 scale; if that isn't already obvious!  

 

 This entire group has been super supportive of my efforts (such as they've been)...and I can't thank you all enough.
