Because he traveled further/a shorter distance to the lap counter for his next lap.

But they never got to those turns so that makes no difference.
And John had been running Jimmy down for several laps so he may have got to the counter first anyway.
Like I said in my first post after the race I am not arguing about the outcome.
I am just saying if had gone the other way I would not have complained about that.
It was a extremely close finish to a great race.

I'll try one last time.
Slot races are decided on who goes the furthest in the 24 minutes, 40 minutes, etc.
It's not who trips the lap first the next lap after the 24 minutes.
The software is not capable of allowing that.
Lap lengths vary from lane to lane, so when the power goes off and the car stops, the car closest to the lap counter has traveled the furthest.
Haven't you ever heard at the end the race when 2 guys are on the same lap, the 2nd place guy who knows he lost concedes the race by saying something like "Joe's closer to the lap counter. He's got me."

If they had been on the straight they would have looked across the track and the winner would have been the one with the nose ahead regardless of who had the longest slot distance to the lap counter.
I am not saying they got it wrong
I am through with this discussion.

Jimmy won. I reviewed from several angles. And since I was there that’s what counts.

I would think that the winner should be declared by drawing an imaginary straight line from the exact center of the radius of the turn to determine who is ahead. Real simple but the pic shows the cars pretty much dead even! Awesome race!

I guess you have to of raced on a track with correctly marked sections to understand who's ahead on the track.
Here's a pic from the Pro Main from the 1987 Nat's in Chicago.
If the 2 cars on the same lap finished where the red dots are on Yellow and Orange, I guarantee the car on Yellow would of been declared the winner because it went farther in 40 minutes.
IOW, the Orange lane dot is at the end of Section 17 but the the Yellow lane dot made it to the beginning of Section 18.

Congrats to the 3Ms (Mike, Mic, and Matt) for pulling off two of the biggest and best races, ISRA worlds and Fall Brawl, in the space of a few weeks!
Kudos to the video crew as well with Monday Night Football-like coverage.

Jimmy probably feels like Derek Jeter, falling 1 point (vote) of a unanimous weekend, having 83 of a perfect 84 points.
Dang, Libby.

I am not a fan of adding more rules, but maybe something should be put into the rules to cover close finishes. If the two cars had finished on a straight but the one behind was closer to the counter, is he/she the winner? If both cars crash as the power shuts off, is the winner the one that bounces the furthest? (I saw that scenario with Lou Pirro, maybe at Elmsford, I don't remember).
Or am I just being a sadistic hippophilic necrofile?

Gil, you could have that put into the NERR rules. Woody and Dave wouldn't object.
