There certainly are some of those price stickers that are chincy with the glue. I bought a name brand from an office supply, and since there are 2500 to a package, I haven't needed to buy more. Just use the back of a fingernail to rub the edges down tight. I haven't had any more bleed-under than with any of the self-proclaimed "professional" masking tapes.

One trick I learned painting R/C bodies on the inside, was to spray a coat of clear over the masking if it is complicated and I want to be sure I won't have to re-do it.

Dennison & Avery are two commercial brands of labels I've gotten locally. I've also used a nickel on masking tape to cut my own.

I believe the dots I have are 3M, but I have had good luck with Avery. The vinyl I use came from an industrial supply.

Unless you have the hands of a surgeon,or your practicing black magic, you are going to have a jagged edge cutting circles.
I forgot to mention that with the grey Tamiya putty, I just tap the tube on the affected areas allowing only enough to smear with my finger. With Luck, I'll be able to fill the scratch(es) and only leave a little residue. If you're expecting (if anyone)it to be like tiger hair, Forgetaboutit. The dots are hit and miss as well as lane stickers. Even the quality of the punch that I suggested is dependent on the quality of the punch and also the puncher.
I'll just go back to playing On Your Feet,Or On Your Knees
And let you guys finish your discussion.

Hey Mark's

I adapted this small well made compass with an added small blade. It makes any( within my  needs) size circles you would want. It cuts really clean.

I will say if you plan to use the circle of vinyl or decal as a final product it will of course have pin hole dead center, but as a mask no such issue. You actually get a 2 for one.  Depending if you need an O.D. or I.D. mask.

OLFA sells such a cutting compass. Theirs is plastic, but I like your metal one better. Use a drop of glue to seal the pin ***** in the middle. If you burnish that area well, you'll probably have to do nothing. To be 100% certain, you could paper punch some of your scrap & stick the small round punchings on the pin pricks.

This was just mildly stressful glad thats done. tried to make the bottom edges of the opening pretty straight and smooth. thats one thing that bugs me on some people models is lumpy openings and cut outs.

my plan for the exhaust. should be easy to make and attach sandwhiched between the chassis and body post mount.

probably do nice full primer coat and while that’s drying a full day I’ll try to fab up some sweet flared brass fuel injection stacks. What does clearcoted polished brass do? will it patina under clear and look like crap after a year? thinking shiny gold stacks will be cool contrast but not sure yet.

Had these right in front of me and never thought about using them. There made of quality masking tape and measure ~7/8" I'll try them and let you know!

Also sorta want to make a brass LCG pan to attach to the chassis with guide tongue and front axle mounted to it.

For what it is worth, this design allowed me to.....1/ significantly lower the Cg.,.....2/ Freeze and adjust the guide height,..3/ by raising the front axle, the front end clearance was reduced without using non scale looking tires,......and by undoing a couple of screws, I can return it to original spec.

Runs extremely well !!!.

Cheers

Finally, back on line after being down for two days.

Martin; That looks just like the Dietzgen compass I use for cutting circles. Nothing better. I made a tiny adapter that takes the point of a #11 X-acto blade, and swivels so that the blade is always facing into the cut. I just cut about 1/4 inch of the point of the blade, and it locks into a slot with a

4-40 set screw.

M. Mark: The openings look just fine. I'm sure you discovered the trick is to use a wide enough file to work the edges.

Mark; since drafting dots are meant to go on paper, and be removed easily, they usually have minimum glue. I think you will have problems with those. If you need dots and can't find any, I'll send you some of the ones I use.

Chris; Neat idea. And I like your "unbreakable" front end.

different style roll bar further goes along with the privateer slightly altered configuration. also thinking Im going scrap the brass injectors for now, too much work. Im going to mount the OEM ones with double stick tape to the motor strap. At some point I can build cool brass ones and add them. Ill probably just glue the roll bar to the sides of the openings its going through. maybe make some flat feet that go under the body for more surface area. still not sure about livery honestly might just do solid white with plain black numbers with no gumballs and assorted sponsor decals.

I've got a chassis like that and, it seems like it's limited on gear ratios. Do you know what ones fit? Or is it limited to just one size? I think I wound up with a 48-12or14?

Stock spur is a 48 not sure on pinion I’d have to count. trying to remember what I had when I had a different motor in one of these I’m sure a few other ratios fit.

Stock ratio for the standard Cox 36D cars is 16/48,.......not a ton of options,....as using a smaller pinion requires a bigger Spur and larger dia. rear tires.

The  36D "Team Modified" chassis does offer a bit of wiggle room on ratios, but, not a ton........from a racing perspective, the "Dino" chassis (FT16D) is the one to use.

Got headlight trim outline painted on and decals applied. going to let dry maybe another whole day before risking any clearcoat reaction. sorta want to try my spraymax acrylic clear this time since its super tough but its also a lot more volatile than the urethane. since I got some really cool super fine sanding pads up to 10k grit Id like to try to cut and buff the clear of orange peel and get it really smooth but I feel the urethane is hard to sand from what Ive read? my white is tamiya TS which I guess is some sort of lacquer. Im pretty new to spraying clear coats so I still dont really know what Im doing.

The last chap was createx white base with urethane clear.

Ok so didnt wait and blasted with my spraymax 1k acrylic. came out pretty good and should be tough. just need to paint interior. might do dark blue like ice seen on some chap interiors or something like a slightly dark red might be cool. Also tempted to tint the windshield yellow hehe.

it's a clean machine  :good:

Do you have any of those products for black panel lines ? I think mine is Tamiya. Capillary action is fun to watch  :)
