Morphing is not inevitable, only if its going to be permitted. Originally it was stated 1966 and early 1967, but half rail chassis have been given kudos. I am confused on what direction to take. IMO, the rules should state amount of rails permitted, including half rails, yes or no. I know it's difficult to unlearn what happened after early 1967.

I built a Billy Steube copy and was told it was not "in the spirit" of the time frame?.......

You may have already seen it by now, but I'm pretty sure I saw a post where someone asked Mike about half rails... he said "No half rails".

Tony P brought it up and Mike said he would prefer no half rails but wasn't putting anything in the rules prohibiting them. So to me if someone uses them it's OK but frowned upon. Not good. Either OK or not. Prefer it was not OK so they were like the originals.

It doesn't say that half rails are prohibited.

Also, I would say that the O/S Lola T-70 should be on the list of approved bodies. It is the same as the True Scale version in regard to the sizing.

Hi

First, I have a problem. Mike said HE made mistakes while driving! This is an obvious falshood so that us lesser drivers feel better. Or, for him "mistake" means "bobble" while for Mark and it it means "WALL".

Harrumph.

Boemker is right, though. I still have the survivors. I did and do run more power than that.

The handling isn't as cool simply because the FK is both lighter and lower than a Hemi 300.

As for running a real motor. At the convention, I do challenge all comers. I don't care about all the fiddly rules.

In any case, it is true that several of us were suggesting modern 16ds for the modern DIII. I still feel that way. I also admit that the D3 program has been wildly successful. Way beyond my dreams. Racers who are afraid of losing are comforted by the FKs which seem to them to be both fair and difficult to modify. Fear in others isn't something I know how to deal with.

But again, I see you guys as friends. And as friends, I intend that when I come to BP to just enjoy your company.

The point of this class might be to race cars that are as close to the 1966 R&C car as is reasonably obtainable  . So, the pictures of the cars in series are here:

R&C Race Reports

I built mine like Mike Morrissey's race winning Lotus 40 using and ED repop body, Patto's Place repop decals and repop Russkit wheels. Since I'm not racing at BP I'm with Rocky and I used a 16D. It's not a clone but I think it is in the sprit of the R&C races:

I added two hunks of lead to the drop arm and bent the body mounts up a little so I didn't have to leave the body extra long on the sides which, to me, looks goofy.

Have fun guys and think 1966 :). Oh, I forgot, I am old and my time was the 60's. Well, pretend you're in the 60's :D

Rick,

How do cars run with those slant-post Russkit guide? I have a few and was thinking about using them on some cars for Mike's race.

They just look so wrong to me in the way they change angle as they turn.

Thanks!

I cannot reply for Rick but I ran a lot of Russkit cars with the slanted guide and never had any issues. The guide was designed to grip the bottom of the slot in case of drift. Does not sound like a bad idea to me. Of course worked better on T slots... :)

The Russkit Slant Guides seem to work fine. I've never tried to do a timed lap comparison between one and say a Cox guide. I'm sure the Pros abandoned them for a reason  ? Morrissey used one on his R&C Lotus so I did too :).

Thank you :) . I love Lotus 40's with brass rod frames. I built one inspired by Mike Steube's fastest qualifier chassis from the same race as the Morrissey car:

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I built this one a few years ago and I can see I didn't follow Mike's original as closely as I thought I had   . I guess that's as good an excuise as any to build another one :laugh2:
