His analogy of comparing slot racing to other forms of entertainment and hobbies is dead on.
The thing that most of us forget is that this is our HOBBY. It is the track owners BUSINESS. Track owners deserve to make a PROFIT.
I'm amused when talking with other racers (wing, scale, oval etc.), and they question the practice of paying for a pit pass and competing for NO monetary or merchandise paybacks.
Past practice is hard to break, and, well, many slot racers are just... cheap.
In the case of Keystone, which rolls out the red carpet in the way of hospitality, track preparation and atmosphere, I really would not mind paying a $30.00 pit pass.

I for one am anything but cheap. I travel and race alot, like many to support a number of series which owners including Mark appreciate greatly. Its more principle for me. Racing alot, you meet alot of track owners. To me, it insults the ones who go above and beyond setting up their shows, to pay double the race fees for one who doesn`t care enough to even see that the tracks are race ready the morning of. Like everyone else, I work hard for my money, so just like the people I work for expect something for their investment, I in turn expect something for mine. I only holler when I think me or my fellow racers are gettin shafted. I for one am not oblivious to the fact these men are running a business, and as such, supporting our raceways supports them as well. Pit fees are part of the deal, but so is respect for those that are paying them. I have, and never had any problems paying a raceway for its use, no matter what they charge as long as I`m getting what I`m paying for.Mark makes some very good points...

Not to be misunderstood...
I was only talking about the tracks that go out of their way to make racers feel appreciated.
I don't have much use for the ones who charge a pit pass fee, just because they can...

WOW,way Sano East Coast,,,,,,,,Congratulations to everybody !It was bad, very bad. I had to ask Randy Kohr to spot for me when I went to the mens room so I did not get hit in the head. Seriously though a few spectators were almost hit.
I know Keith sustained a cut hand and both Jersey John and Robert were not capable of having sex when they got home Sunday night. I think Robert was hit there twice by cars launching going in under the bridge or flying off the top of the bridge when they launched up there. Next time wear a cup guys. LOL...

Mark,
On a serious note about skiing, I went ONCE !! That was enough.. I rented a white snow suit and when I was coming down the mountain they thought I was an avalanche !! They evacuated 4 towns !!
I obviously should stay out of the larger debate that is going on here, considering we have not toured like you guys and Elmsford is our home track. (we do also have discussions about the 'hospitality' of our host - who by the way does not believe in track calls - is it so he can sell more parts?).
But since someone ELSE brought up the subject of skiing...
I liken racing on Nouvolari to skiing in the east (which is often icy rather than snowy). If you can do it good here, you find it easier when traveling to places where the conditions are better.
Hope to see you at HVR in June.
