Last week I was traveling in GA and could not make it to CMS (Sorry Greg, Jay, Ralph) but on Thursday evening I went to Daytona Slots in Dallas. There is a great tri oval an estimated 110' long, huge, fast, and fun. But what caught my attention was this monster purple thing. I don't have a camera phone but I will describe it as best I can.

HUGE 220', main bank turn 72 degrees, two elevation changes one up and one down, at speed they act like a jump! Then a small banked turn, esses and two long straights and split driver stations. I had so much fun on this track it is like crack. I could not get enough. If I recall correctly it was built in 1969 by Engleman?

The track is not perfect, lots of bumps, braid needs some work, and I think he needs to hook up the lap timer, but it would make a cool retro race.

So has anybody else seen this track?

Anybody have any pictures?

I spent a long time racing on this track ran all my cars, retro, Flexi, FCR, and wing. Now I'm not much of a racer or a builder but, this track is so much fun! I think it would be perfect for a retro race.

Sounds like the GOD-AWFUL track that was in Riverdale, Manchester, and Snellville. Marine plywood, red formica put on in Manchester. A Champion Hall of Famer came down to a race, saw the track, said #%&##### and left. I finished second with Ray Gardner third.

Sounds like the track that was at Flashbacks in Snellville... Never raced on it but it does look like a monster...

That might be the one that Cheater took me to in Atlanta a few years ago.

Sure does sound like the track that was in Snellville, if so, I had the opportunity to race on it one time and I absolutely loved it. I was talking to Ralph and Joe at the last SERRA race in Abbeville about the tracks whereabouts. If this is the track, I may have to try to make a trip to play on it again.

I've seen the track in Dallas, GA, it IS definitely the "ancient one" from Flashbacks in Snellville, GA. I've run on it a few times (in Snellville only) and it really wouldn't have been so bad if the condition of the track itself was improved. It does take a lot of getting use to with its multiple elevation changes but once you do it's kinda fun, sort of the ultimate drivers track. I'm not sure if they've done any renovation on the track as installed in Dallas, GA, so I can't say what it's like to run on right now.

We are pretty spoiled with so many of todays tracks being extremely smooth and having good clean power.

Sometimes tracks with quirks can be fun and create a real hometrack advantage for the locals. Sometimes they should just be firewood.

Yep, that was my home track for about six years when it was at Flashbacks Model Raceway in Snellville, GA. We raced on that monster three times a week. It's where I learned how to drive a slot car.

In my opinion one of the coolest tracks still around these days. I know many well known slot racers who wouldn't even walk through the door of the raceway because that track was there. It's too bad they weren't up for a challenge.

Here's photos taken August '08 while the track was still being installed and reworked. Eddie Lawley and I stopped by on the way home from the first Marietta retro race this season to check it out.

WHAT A BLAST! We MUST have a race on this track. It is a total HOOT! It's SOOO much fun to catch air coming off the jump and land back in your slot before you shoot through the turn and down the esses. The two straights seem like they go on forever. AWESOME TRACK! Totally Retro.

Yep... that IS the old Flashbacks track. I won many a race on that thing... I even showed Cheater the way around it once... LOL.

I loved that track once I learned how to set a car up for it... I'm glad to see it back in action.

Just seeing that track again gives me the itch. I will definitely have to make a trip to play on that one again, maybe I'll enjoy it more since I don't suck as bad as I did the one time I got to race on it.

I'm glad to see that the rear clip of a race car isn't hanging over the banked turn anymore. I distinctly remember the sick sound my car made when it launched off of black and smacked that rear end. That made for a fun time straightening that chassis.

Dallas is only 1.5 hrs. from me....the shortest drive yet. Our cars will be geared a little "taller" after Snellville anyway so why not give it a shot? That thing just looks retro to me!

Dudes, lets set something up. Eddie and I are all for it. I don't care if its retro or even Flexi cars. Lets get a race going. I know the owner would be up for it. When Eddie and I visited he was excited about racing on the track. Most of his locals only want to race on the oval.

I'm in, Steve. Like you said, anything would be fun. I still think that the stock cars would be a blast. But then I think the Flexi cars could take more of a beating and not destroy a car that took many hours to build!

Eddie and I ran F7 Flexis when we were there. They were a blast! Although those straights seemed to go on forever. The cars wound out about a third the way through (12/37 gears). They were fast and drivable though.

Any open date (non-SERRA, non-AMSRA) would be good for me, except the week of May 31 - Jun 6. Susan and I are getting married and going on our honeymoon to Gulf Shores that week. She's agreed to let us take a side trip one day to Mobile to check out the track over there. Have I got a cool wife or what?

Wow, I'm glad everybody is as excited about this track as I am. How about a non-points mid summer Can-Am shootout. No points, no worries, just racing and lots of time to fix your car!
