I'm ready when you are Steve. A new motor, different gears and a fresh pair of tires and my Flexi GT Coupe is ready to go! The Chevron body that most of us ran should be just fine... but I may lay the spoiler all the way down... don't think we will need it.

We are pretty spoiled with so many of todays tracks being extremely smooth and having good clean power.

Sometimes tracks with quirks can be fun and create a real hometrack advantage for the locals. Sometimes they should just be firewood.

This looks like a copy  of an Engleman... Stan's esses's were much more uniform than those  ... I would have to see the leg structure under the bank to be sure, but that does not look like an Engleman bank... Also never heard of him building any type of hillclimb :o ...

BTW does it have a bottom deck, like the American tracks had??? if so that could  make it an Altech, also built by Engleman...

Hi Ben.

Looks like it was built by Stan Engleman to me.

Definitely an Engleman Hi-Speed bank... just like mine and the others he built for himself and Altech, flat going in and coming out, kicked up high in the center.

Look at the way it's sectioned: big pieces, probably no base or it would be unreasonably heavy.
Seems to have double 3/8" plywood sides like mine, too.

No attached legs, I'll bet, just rests on supports as does mine and the sides are the same height from the floor all around.
The surface is definitely vintage particle board, it's still got roots in it. :laugh2:

It has a second deck and the sections are very heavy. The most fun I ever had slot racing was on this track.

Joe,

You just say that because you won most of the races held on that track when it was in Snellville... LOL!!

Looks like some of you should have got off the computers long enough to actually go race at this "monster" of a track.

It's being offered at OWH for $8,000 OBO.

This track will be closing up at the end of July. I just bought his drag strip.

I don't know his plans for the Engelman but will ask John this weekend at the FCR race..

Ray,

You need to clean your glasses. It's the same track.

It was at Flashbacks in Snellville, GA, for years, then was sold to John at Daytona Slots in Dallas, GA. Daytona Slots is NOT in Daytona Beach, FL.

The track is fun and very difficult. I raced at Dallas Slot and he brought the track in but no one wanted to race on it. I ran on it in 96-98 gtp nascar, some wings. We tried racing hardbodies with fcr's on it but people would not race. I love the track, drivers track. He has closed and looking for buyer. Track surface is rough so you have to set car up for it. I got my 4 1/2 fcr & flexi to handle with 32 front axal in 1/8 oil lite. My floater. Hate to see it go AGAIN. He is going to retier and head to Florida.

I would have liked to work with you Retro guys, but the bad economy was taking me down and then a detached retina finished the job. I still have the pink Engleman and a 90' American Regal (flat turns). When you have a first class tri-oval to run on (Tunkel 110' Daytona), sometimes it is hard to get your racers to race on a track that actually requires you to drive.

Since my vision has returned, I may be open to setting up the two tracks if I could find a partner to help out. I think Retro is the immediate future of slot racing. Sounds like fun.

That track looks like a nightmare to marshall. Is it?

Don,

Perhaps some of you South Carolina racers can help me on this. I am trying to trace the origins of this track. The earliest verified location was in 1986 when Jeff Chalmers purchased it from a store in North Augusta, SC. Do any of you remember the store or the track from there?

Thanks,

John,

Jim,

Are your control panels original? If so, do you have any good pictures. They look similar in construction to mine except for the wraparound.

I remember chasing Joey Mac and Ralph around that track. It was great with Wing 12s running Chinese motors.

That yellow above is for sure an Engleman, even has original bases. It is an exact copy of my home track as a kid except for the color.

Lindsay,

Great to hear from you again, hope everything is going well for you in Australia.

I would like to thank you again for all the help you gave me when I first set the blue king at Daytona Slots. Could not have set up that King nearly as well without the help of you, Joe, Tommy, and of course, Mark. Great job done and never asked for anything in return.

Next time you are in this area give me a shout.

Thanks,

John

:) I have received confirmation from two racers in California that this is indeed the 308' track that was located at C&M hobbies in Sacramento circa 1965-1970!

If I can find information as to the original placement of the removed sections, I plan on restoring this track to its original size. If my research is correct, this is the only survivor of the monster 300' plus giants of that era.

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

As far as the pink track is concerned, where is it and what kind of condition is it in?

I'm really looking forward to one day seeing your track in it's original configuration.

Please keep us posted. :)
