John, I sent you a private message earlier today, please check it out.

As far as the pink track is concerned, where is it and what kind of condition is it in?

Doc,
The track is currently in storage in Dallas, Ga. It was running in fair condition when I closed in 2009. The pink formica is in good shape and the pieces bolt together well. The frame is box construction like American tracks so it is very solid. The track surface is black epoxy on marine plywood. The epoxy has started to peel in a few places but the cars still run well.

Thanks,

John

:shok: I have just done the math on restoring this track to its original 308ft lap length. Because all the straights are parallel, this can be accomplished by adding two ea. 10ft sections to the top and bottom straights and 1ea 10ft section to each of the four finger straights. Since the track already has a footprint of 54ft lenght this would bring it to 74ft. Almost 10 ft longer than that of the the purple mile! Can you handle two 70ft straightaways? Also, as far as driveabililty is concerned, adding 10ft to the bottom of the high bank drop would allow cars to recover better after getting some air over the drop.

I hated that track... but The Kid loved it!

I totally used up one of Cheater's cars at a Southern USRA (?) race when it was out there at Flashbacks in Snellville. The uphill into the 180 gave me fits. Hard to use the brakes when you are in the air! :shok:

The Kid destroyed his Granddad's Georgia Hobby Center hardbody NASCAR when he took a trip to Zaxby's out of the bank!

Jeff,

Just imagine the damage you could do if you held the controller wide open with the track restored to its original 330ft.:laugh2:

If you learn to drive your car just as in real racing, this track is very challenging and rewarding. I spent many hours of fun racing on this track with my hardbodys and after crashing a few times learned where to apply power conservatively and where to peg the controller.

LOL John...I could definitely trash some stuff at 330'.

The only part that really gave me fits was the 180 after the uphill. The downhill really didn't give me any trouble. :scratch_one-s_head:

I know some folks love that track. And I know others that hate it.

Wasn't that track in Jonesboro before it went south to Manchester/Warner Robins?

This is the same track, Jeff. I had it up and running in Dallas, GA, until last year when I closed. This track was originally in Sacramento, CA in 1964 and moved and shortenned over the years. The last survivor of the monster tracks in California from the sixties.

Hello John,

I think you have one of the best tracks out there and would love to see it put back to its starting form and to be able to race on it again. I had a blast racing on it in the '90s and would love racing on it again. Just look at the Purple Mile, I feel people will travel to race on the Pink Mile and a half. LOL.

Good luck with it and see you at the track.

:) Good to hear from you again, Russell! I have been away from this blog for a few weeks (busy holidays), and was pleased to see your posts. I am looking for a (or some) partner(s) to help set up a raceway on the west side of Atlanta. Some of the prices on the rent of commercial spaces in the Douglasville area have come down greatly in the past six months. I have two tracks and all equipment needed to open.

Hope to see you again soon at Eddie Mac's on Saturday nights.

Daytonaman,

I stumbled upon this website last night thanks to google incorrectly auto-"correcting" one of my searches, and found myself staring at the track I use to race on as a kid in the mid 1990's. Were you the owner at Slot Car World in Douglasville, GA? I always wondered what happened to that track, it was so much fun. Glad to see it is still exist, even if it is just in storage right now. I hope you do get the track up and running again, would love to race on it again.

This is probably my favorite track in the world! It is a totally unique racing experience, a hell of a lot of fun, and sure to drive purists and SCMs mad. Years ago Cheater once held my hand around it once or twice when it was in Snellville, and I still dream of coming back to Jawja and racing on it again. That its pedigree includes NorCal is a nice detail.

If I ever win the lottery I'll be the sugar daddy :big_boss: that'll bring this track back to life, but until then, if any of you rich folks with money to burn want to step up, I'm sure you'd have a lot of grateful fans who would praise your name. :)

I ran on that track in Sacramento around '67-68 ish. For some reason, Revell comes to mind for the constructor, but that is just a whisper of a feeble memory. Revell had more vertical turns on their tracks than all other manufacturers combined.

Tom,
I think you may be right on this being a Revell track. If you look closely at the legs on the tracks in your catalog entry under the topic Revell Tracks, the legs are identical to the ones on my pink track. If so, this is possibly the only surviving Revell track. The track is still in storage waiting for a place to be set-up.
