I asked Lenore about those motors a couple of months back and she was asking $10 each for them at the time. The price might have changed since then.

I saw the Russkit 22's in the BPR display case this last weekend. They were marked $25 each.

This is all my fault.

The week before the Legends race, we got all inspired here on this thread--Philippe posted his Brabham pics, Rocky started heterodyning, & I called BPR asking for these motors; forget who I talked to, but he thought they were around $10 and didn't have time to dig--could I talk to Lenore? So I called back, on race day as it turned out, & Lenore turned to Philippe who said...and now it's "official."

All my fault. I created a MARKET!! Me and my big mouse.

All that aside, any 16D--the cool thing is the limited rubber footprint providing a natural upper end to how much power you want in these cars.

Hi

Little Mikey(duf), the Lotus 11 doesn't really HAVE wheel openings....just little sort of "raisings". Part of the challenge.

25 bucks? Wow, I have given away a lot of money to freinds, I guess!

Russ, I have heard P talk about running them stock in the day in France, but I never did. Without rewinding, in the day, there were factory hotter arms. The stock motors, the 22, 23, sp500, sp510 all came with 3 to 5 ohm winds stock. But the market was flush with hotter versions for them. The hottest "stock" being a32 s wind that measures 1 ohm.

On the other hand, THAT was why we were building so many light cars, especially with 16ds and why 36ds were dominent in serious racing until april or so in 66!

Things like the lotus 7 and 11 and other "lost cause" cars were usually just for the fun of it. Though I admit that my surviving Cooper Monaco/Cobra is big enough for a 36d. It wasn't competitive with my wider cars also with 36ds.

Got that; I said, I was Looking. Now, having not found, I'm poking around for some likely scheme.

Look at this one. Anyone who's ever seen a happy face on the Bugeye Sprite will understand the look of surprise & a little unease in these cars.

Hi

It is another one of those cars I am too big to even sit in. HOWEVER, the reason i had a spare body for Duffy was that I think it is neat. As I said, in the day, I had 1/24 versions just for fun on non-race days. Near 20 years ago, Mike Gillett in Minneapolis repoped them for me and him. And sold a few. Makes a Lotus 19 look like a "practical" slot car body!

A friend stopped by last night, a Grp.12 racer back then; he found me amidst a pile of Lexan shells and bent bronze, and was kvelling over what I was doing. Showed him the Howmet & the Vanwall bodies, and--I admit to pulling the punch--put the Lotus 11 into his hand. His eyes went THIS BIG. "OOOOOOooo," he purred, "Now you're going into 1/32nd Scale TOO??"

So, lets see, I haven't cataloged my collection of old frames and bodies, but you expected me to catalog and recollect your stunning posts?

Never use the word MOVEMENT around a group of old guys, next thing you will see is thread creep talking about fiber and proper nutrition, which as we all know has nothing to do with slot racing.

...See, that's just what I'm good for; any time y'wanna tighten up that ol' deathgrip on the obvious, I've got the punchline jus' sittin' right there waiting.

Putting a JD GP chassis together this afternoon, for Kenny at Slots-A-Lot. Nice to have a little time all my own.
My buddy often says that, what with all the things that go on in our lives, maybe the only place we really have control is here at the bench. It may go good or it may go horrible, but it's our hands doing it and nobody else's. That's rare, I think; and I treasure the moment.

Hi Duffy,

I read through your interesting post, great stuff. Your "Lost Causes" cars are what I've been calling "The Dawn Of Time" cars like this Zerex Special:

Posted Image

Fun stuff :) . Here's a link to it:

The Dawn of Time

Before the Pro racers that's the kind of car people built. Scale bodies were all that was available and life was good! In 1965 I showed up at a Tri-Raceway final with a Cooper Cobra (Monaco with a Ford V8) full fender skirts and all :shok: . With the slippery tires of the day the narrow rear track actually gave the car more bite in the corners  . Back then we mostly ran GP cars though. Motors were down on power and tires were low on traction so light weight was the rule. The car below is how I remember what we built in late '65 early '66. It's a shop car with a repop body I run all the time at Eddie's Slot Car World:

Posted Image

Here's a link to building it:

Fly Weight GP

Anyway, I've got a R&C Lotus GP, a 26D "open" motor AW, and a Thingie project going now. But I'd love to build another Lotus 11 in your "Lost Causes" thread :) .The one below has an original Dubro body and it doesn't get much track time. I like to build another with the repop body as a "shop car" not a "shelf queen". We'd show them boys at the raceway what a 1/32 scale car can do :laugh2: !

Hah! Look at that, a Bonner a space frame and a blessedly-rigid guide shoe, this is beyond Retro, it's downright Luddite. I love it. How if we started popping out rides like this, what would be the reactions? How would they fare in the impartial judgement of a Wise Machina?

Let's find out.

I'm looking around Tam's site &c. for docs on one of these in color in The Day--I understand the tight-cockpit bodies were mainly in local club racing and were all silver.

Found a NON-silver one. War'nt hard. This is Frank Monise at Riverside '62, where he & John Tumamis (in a proper silver Mk.XI) fought it out, Monise winning by a foot.

I love the little sign, no driver's name for this car! Got dibs on this one.

Turns out there's been a glitch in understandings, and I am sending HowmetTX my Lotus 11 shell tomorrow for repopping--I tho't that HE had, & he tho't that I had, and and and...

You guys are making me do a walk down memory lane.

First dc-65X mentioned: "In 1965 I showed up at a Tri-Raceway final with a Cooper Cobra (Monaco with a FordV8) full fender skirts and all. With the slippery tires of the day the narrow rear track actually gave the car more bite in the corners" That bought memories to me because I was there on that day at Pasadena Speedway and raced against Rick's sano King Cobra. I certainly remember his beautiful car.

Then Duffy posted the picture of Frank Monise in his Lotus 11. Frank's shop was (and still is) just a couple miles from Pasadena Speedway. During the seventies and early eighties I was a frequent visitor at Frank Monise Motors hanging out with Frank and his sons Frankie and Howard. Sadly Frank passed on a couple years back, he was one of a kind.
