Rick,

The two major retro organizations have banned the so-called "speed rubber" tires.

What is there to discuss?

I talked to Terry the other day, and the subject of tires came up.
He told me Bulldog rubber is a proprietary compound he had developed with the rubber company, and not the same as the wing car "speed rubber"

The real "speed rubber" is rock hard, and lasts 1 or 2 heats in racing before you have to change them.

Sounds to me like if you don't run bull dog rubber, you will not be competitive, so there is an argument to ban it.

Why then don't you ban the next best rubber, then the next best... where does it stop? You are going to insist that all manufacturers use the same rubber compound? what kind of racing is this?
how are you going to tech for rubber chemistry?

I think this whole thing is stupid!~ :ireful3:

OK, so you and Terry go start your own "retro" series using your motors and chassis kits along with all of his tires, and call it a day. Good luck, I hope it works for you!

I gotta call BS on this... Harder compound tires generally last longer than softer ones... at least on the East Coast they do...

After talking to several people across the country that supply rubber, all I can say is there are so many types of rubber even within a type because all they have to do is to tweak the process a little and get larger cells, smaller cells, softer and harder rubber, all in the same breed of rubber. It can be very hard to tell every tire foam from another without tests.

This is why even natural rubber is all different from batch to batch. This is why all the funny rubber is not the same as the next. If a racer were to change the lane for other racers to this extreme then that would not be allowed either.

"It brings faster lap times and that is the name of the game, faster!"

Now see Rick---that's where your wrong!! D3 isn't about going faster every week, that's why the motors have been selected and are sealed. It's NOT about trying to go faster every time you hit the track, but enjoying being competitive and racing WITH YOUR FRIENDS!!! It's not about cut-throat do whatever you can to go faster. It IS about door handle to door handle racing with the best builder/driver coming out on top more often than not. It's for FUN FIRST!!

RUDY!!!!--- If D3 didn't ban Bulldog / Speed rubber style tires---than MORE tire manufacturer's would have been hurt. We've been running natural rubber all along--- ALL the tire manufacturer's have this rubber---so they have an equal shot at getting the business. If the "silicon" based rubbers were allowed--- then EVERYONE would have had to go to them, because they were tested and found NOT compatible with each other. This is the fairest way to handle the problem.

THIS---from a D3 Racer!!!!

Tim, you're preaching to the choir. I guess you can't spot sarcasm................ :laugh2: :laugh2:

The other thing I think many are missing is that any advantage is only an advantage when you are the only one, once the rest figure it out, all that changes is the bar was raised higher.
