I'm a little slow getting this project finished. I've been working all week to resurrect my little three-lane 1/24 routed home track. I built a 1/32 Scalextric track on top of it. Why? I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time .
Anyway the track is back and it's a blast for the older cars. My Bonner powered cars actually seem fast on it . On the big commercial tracks you need to look twice to make sure they are moving at all. .
So, here is the finished roller on my track:
It has plenty of grunt and was doing wheel stands like a "Little Red Wagon"! I adjusted the drop arm stop to eliminate all but the slightest movement and started adding lead weight. I remembered this advice:
Thanks, Don! I placed the weight in different places on the drop arm and two weights at the very front of the arm worked best. It's nice to have a test track again!... Performance-wise, there's a good chance that putting the lead weight as far forward as possible is best. Check Tore's chassis in the fifth Rod & Custom race, his lead is very close to the guide. And that track really tested the chassis...
I'm painting now to finish her off. I'm using a vintage Auto Hobbies interior (Professor Motor sells a repop). I painted it with Tamiya aluminum lacquer but I wanted the dashboard to be black. The thought of trying to brush paint those long straight lines with my "shaky" paint brushes wasn't good. So, I tried this:
I cut thin strips of tape and masked the thing off. It turned out way better than I could have done by hand:
The rest is all going to be my shaky brush work though.
Onward...

It's 16' long and made of MDF board painted with high gloss light grey polyurethane floor enamel, like a Hasse Nillson commercial track. It fits in one bay of our garage and still leaves room for two work benches, a small vertical mill, and a rollaway with top box. The power supply is a variable unit so I can dial back the power a bit for the faster cars:
The white strip down the side is an extension I added for the Scalextric track. I may remove it or turn it into a pit lane:
This Pittman DC-65X-powered Lotus is a hoot on this track:
Back to painting the Lotus 19 Special. The interior is finished... finally .

How much beer does it take for a non painter type guy to blow on 2 colors, a backer, peal all the tape off and clean up the overspray
Ready, on your mark, get set, GO!
We're off and painting. Just a little brew was needed to get the red color on. The silver lower body sides and white backer are next:
All the paint is on and it's tape pealing time. It looks like this was a about a half a brewski job :
I still need to paint all the flat black stuff on the body..........and make up some engine detail:
I'm getting the painting over with bit by bit...........I need to solder something .........soon.........like a Bob Emott Low CG chassis

In all of my color pictures this car looks red but I read a description of the car and it was listed as metallic burgundy. I tried mixing some burgundy but, well, I like red . It's not an exact scale model of Jerry Hansen's car but I tired to make it in the spirit of his car and of a 1966 commercial track slot car:
I really like the way the big scale (more or less ) wheels and tires fill the wheel wells:
I tried to match the weirdo wheels on the real car with Monogram Midget model kit rear inserts.....
.....and Russkit Lola style fronts:
Here's the interior with gauges, shift lever, roll bar and the engine detail:
Here is the view I hope to give the competition:
It's a bit of a handful on my home track. I'm looking forward to opening it up on Eddie's big tracks .
