King Cobra?

That is too bad. One of the guys from my club called and was told that they didn't know anything about a club meeting and he was booked with birthday parties so all the guys decided not to go, including my ride.
He said the one open track was a "King" that the Wing car racers would be using...

P, you are correct, the three new cars got the new nose, the ex-Holbert car had the old nose, but still the bulged rear fenders for the new wider tires.
Number 95 if memory serves. A "'63-1/2", then?
My copy of Nye is the later expanded edition, but, while fun, sadly short of photos!
My disappointement with the new MRRC issue of the 97 car in orange was just the standard '63 in orange; didn't have the spoiler OR the nose, let alone being the full lang conversion!
Other photos I don't have. The "Purple People Eater" modification. Mono did one reissue with the cut wheel wells and mini flares. I have footage on tape and DVD of the car running at winter Bahamas race but I haven't seen a still of the car. Of course, never done as a vac either.
Another mod, the first of the CM61s in America had a longer nose than the ones made famous, but no one did that version either.
So, the question, Philippe, is this obsession just you and I and are we boring everyone else?

I saw the picture of the your "King" in the other thread and it looks fantastic! Wish I could have seen it run. When you have a chance, please post pics here of the car and chassis setup. I'm curious to see your setup.
Thanks,
Paul
PS: Prof and PDL, I never tire of the information you guys provide regarding both 1:1 and slot cars of this vintage!

I am going to put my Lancer on a new chassis this winter as well. I have my original modified Monogram to restore as well. The rear wing I made is missing, but otherwise intact, less chassis.

That was in 1964 when on chassis ran a Chevrolet engine and the other an Oldsmobile engine. One car ran the angled-up pipes and one ran the early horizontal pipes.

The 1/32 scale slot car kit and the two static kits that Hawk made showed the Olds version, while almost all others modeled the chassis with the Chevy.

Joe, those Mille Miglia wheels look great! I am presently restoring a set by bead blasting and sealing to try to finish a Russkit Porsche 906. I wish I were a machinist, so I could figure a way to convert those to set screw.

The King Cobra is one I never saw at the track in the late '60s.

I cut the wheels just a bit and they work fine. It is not the only car with Mille Miglia wheels I have that works good.
I'll have to do a rebuild on the motor one day as it is low on horsepower.

Actually, the first two 1964 cars (fiberglass tub, flat body sides, one fitted with the Chevy, one with the Olds, one with a Cooper 5-speed gearbox, one with a prototype semi-automatic 2-speed supplied by GM, both with black "wobbly" wheels, then black "kidney-bean" wheels), were simply called "Chaparral 2".We all know the Chap II 'c' and on designations. Was the Olds motor the IIa or IIb or just plain II? I know the Chap I was the front engine T & B car.
In early 1965, the very same chassis received the wider front and rear wheels, new Coke-bottle shaped sides to enclose the wheels, both were now Chevy-powered and both had the auto tranny and were still called "Chaparral 2" but in recent times, the suffix "A" was added by historians to clearly separate the new from the old. Jim Hall has clearly said that they were never called "2A" when they were racing.
The 2C is a completely different animal, wider and lower, ran only two races in which it DNF'd then crashed, and its repaired aluminum tub was used to make the first 2E.

I really like what you did with you King. The wheels do match up with the car very well. I'd like to find something that does the car justice as well. I have found some really interesting paint schemes for this car on various websites. Not sure if any of them are actual race liveries but they still look cool.
I'm thinking maybe this cool yellow one or maybe something silver....

Here's a set of those wheels before and after bead blasting. After is on the left side. I sealed them with Future floor polish but I'm going to use clear spray next time. The sides of the wheels were polished to a shine but application of Future made them look like flat aluminum like the rest of the wheel.
A better close up.
I think you should try Lime Juice on the wheels then polishing, insted of bead blasting .

Notice how all those bodies are WRONG!
None have the little dent in the nose of the first photo.
Grin.
