Gerding and Silky are due back in Ashland in about a week. Can't wait to see them start working on the Purple.

Saw them at work when I visited last night. Gary says it will take about two weeks.

It is amazing that they may get this track fisihed in two weeks. I'm guessing that it may take a little longer. Something as difficult as this track usually finds some unexpected things that suddenly pop sup.

Last night Peter Lentros mentioned that he's taking many photos. I'm guessing that he may be saving many of them for a special article and maybe a special web page for the Sovereign.

It should be noted that Gerding and Silky are not working on the replacement of the damaged purple Formica. That will be done by someone who specializes in that area. It will be a job to find that matching purple color from the early '60s. I'm sure they will find it in some warehouse somewhere.

Does anyone know the status of the Purple Mile... how is it coming along?

Would love to take a trip to MA to test it out.

I saw it last night. Gary and Bill have finished repairing, routing, and sanding the surface. Peter L said they planned to paint the surface today.

I received the same news this morning. It's my understanding that the track may be ready to race on as early as Monday. I'm not sure when the cosmetic parts (infield and Formica siding) will be completed. More than likely different tradesman will be doing that work in the very near future.

I've asked Bruce Gordon to stop by Modelville to snap some photos of the track and post them on this site. Let''s hope he can get the shots and post.

Just got back from Modelville. Two coats of paint and striping completed on the Purple. The color is almost identicle to the original painted surface. Friday the braid will be applied. Monday evening should be the first test run. Gerding has indicated that he will be back in January to install the infield. Peter has photos that he will be submitting.

I have never even touched a Purple Mile, let alone run a car on one.

I saw one once through a locked front door to a track in Tuscaloosa, AL, in 1966. I was in a junior high school band and we had gone to Tuscaloosa for a band contest. The contest was over and we were all bussed to a cafeteria near there. I remember we had finished our lunch and were walking back to the bus when I noticed we were walking in front of a slot car track. It was closed but I remember looking in through the front door glass and seeing the track in there. It was so big, it was the only track in there. Almost 45 years later the memory is still pretty fresh.

For the first time in over 40 years, the original American Sovereign aka Purple Mile has slot cars cruising around its mighty bank turn!

Congratulations to Gerding and Silky for a real fine job bringing this track back to life after all these years in storage.

Congratulations to Peter Lentros who purchased the track and found a new home for it.

This is a fine day for 1/24 scale slot racing.

Congratulations!!! Would it be possible to post a video of a car/cars running on the track - please? That would be exciting to see!

Thank you.

Wow! What a track. A Retro race on this track would be monumental. I believe it would attract every slot racer whether they race Retro or not. The R4 is a huge success every year due directly to the track its held on and its history. To hold a major national retro race on the Purple Mile would be a no-brainer. I`m in.

I think it's clear everyone is waiting for photos. Now that the track is running, maybe the owner will now have the time to post
them.

Right now this a thread is about someone saying they or they know someone who is dating a clone of Marilyn Monroe but not offering any pics.

Yes, that would be way cool.
