What is the deal on Step 2, page 40, beating the dirt shields out of the BB's ?
I have never heard of this. Is this necessary on modern BB's ?

Too late anyway, my new Slick 7 BB's are already soldered home and I ain't changin' 'em.

Some people used to think if you used unshielded bearings or beat the dirt shields out of shielded ones, if was easier to clean them out with a squirt of lighter fluid or tiger milk. Of course it was easier for the junk to get in without shields too. :) I used to clean bearings with an ultrasonic cleaner. I never removed the shields or had any problems.

Thank You, Gentlemen . :)

I had to skip a lot of steps in Stage V due to parts on order. So, I moved on.

Stage VI calls for a 5 thou goop shield.
Where can I find 5 thou brass sheet ? The thinnest I have is 15 thou. :shok:

No bats, but maybe some mice & wasps are up there. Mostly bodies & some of my old wing car parts from the 70's are up there. But I'm thinking, hopefully, the brass might be stored on the 2nd floor. :laugh2: I know it's not down cellar or here on the first floor. Yes, I have some slot stuff stored on every level. :laugh2:

That's why I'm waiting for sunlight. Getting into the attic requires a 7' step ladder & one very big last step to get through the cubby hole. :laugh2: I used to make my goop shields from mylar sheets so nothing would short out. :)

Pablo,
If I may make a recommendation here, unless you can get a genuine Faas or Parma gear sleeve, do not use the K&S brass tubing to make one because its diameter is too small and you are going to end with a wobbly gear. Instead use K&S aluminum tubing because it appears to be larger and also tighter on the axle. This is what I use for my retro cars crown gears and it has worked well.
