PdL make up a name and give him credit for the design

Let's use a name that no one would even think possible. I know... Anthony Przybylowicz or something that unlikely... :laugh2:

That sounds like the former Tottenham track that ended up at Wonderland in Southend, which would qualify as the 'seaside resort'. All long gone.

Yes that would be the one.

It would be interesting to know the production/appearance chronology.

Both Black tracks and the Red had the same pattern as the Blue.
I'm pretty sure the 150' Red and the 90' flat Black were around before the King.

Was the banked Black produced after the King or before?

If before, it was obviously a precursor to the King and the real question is who designed the banked Black? :laugh2:

In American Race pricing info sheets........

Adios Amigos

LOL yep I slipped I was thinking about REM when I was typing in all those tracks and forgot to type in REM.

And the Lorain track I mentioned would be the Amherst track.

I'm shocked no one has come up with a registry of American Raceways tracks.

I read somewhere that the King was designed by Hoosier Daddy assisted by Ivana Racealot.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

It's the nature of the beast... :)
So how about a correct listing of those ORIGINAL American Kings still set and in service? :)

Dokk, check out THIS thread.

That's how many I've been able to track down.

In slot car tracks to population I think Ohio wins hands down.

Why are there so many tracks in Ohio?? I have to admit Ohio is an industrious state. That coming from a resident of the Wolverine State. Just remember, all Wolverines are weasels but we are the biggest weasels. :) GO BLUE!

Bertil,

I hope to have the answer you have been seeking soon.

Last night, I spoke to the former local track owner Jeff. In 1996, Jeff and his former business partner went to Colorado and bought an Ogilvie Blue King from Denver and brought it back to Oklahoma. After Jeff had the track up and going, he contracted Hasse Nielsson (did I spell his name correctly?) to come in and build a drag strip for his business. During the time Hasse was here, Jeff says he asked him who originally designed the Blue King. Jeff told me Hasse claimed to know. Jeff said he wrote the person's name down on a piece of paper and that it was somewhere at his house, but he would have to look for it. If and (hopefully) when he finds it, I will post it here on Slotblog. I will do my best to get your answer.

Dokk, check out this thread: http://slotblog.net/...aceways-tracks/

That's how many I've been able to track down.

In the thread Mike is referencing, it says that Buzz-A-Rama not only has a original King in the shop, but another in the basement. In another thread about Modelville Hobbies, it is claimed that there is a Sovereign in the Buzz-A-Rama basement. It is petty well document that Buzzy had an Emperor that is now in the basement. Could all three of these tracks be in the Buzz-A-Rama basement? (I have wondered about this in a previous thread.)
How about setting the record straight, Buzz?

I now see that Lenjet has the answer to my question: "Hello, This is Peter Lentros from Modelville Hobby. Buzz has a King and the Emperor in the cellar. He does not have a Sovereign."

Thank you, Peter.

It seems the King and Sovereign were confused. I would have really been surprised if he had both...

Also, perhaps Buzz (because it is rumored he throws away little) has the original documentation that may have clues to the King track designer?

I checked with Hasse, he says he doesn't know.

Since it seems the principals involved with American are probably no longer with us, we can only hope there's documentation somewhere.

I still prefer the Red and the Orange anyway, carnage without too much speed. :D

Memories can fade over time. Let's see if Jeff can find this piece of paper from 1996 or 1997 with someone's name on it before we close the book on this one. I just talked to Jeff and he will try to find it this weekend.

JimH, I'm not arguing or disputing your post in any way. I'm more than curious to find out whose name is on this paper that Jeff says he has. That's all.

Did AMCR ever patent anything? If so, a patent search might give some clues as to their engineering department, seeing as how a drawing is usually submitted.

I did a quick patent search using the available public tools and did not find anything linking AMCR or American to slot car track or slot car. If anyone has access to professional patent tools, something may turn up, the public tools often miss things, especially for something from the early 1960's. If anyone has an original drawing, it should list who did the drawing layout and who approved or checked his work. Often the checker or authorizer is the main technical creator. No one who does technical work likes to give this up. If anyone has access to an original early American track with original labeling and there is a patent number, it is pretty simple to look up the patent. I have seen several and don't remember any numbers. The best bet would be something unique to American like the steering wheels and pedal controls.
