I sure hope they turn up the power to the Wing Car Voltage at Buena Park when these things race next month. Along with seeing if they will Full Punch the Deadman, and Full Punch the Finger, should be great fun seeing these things run on the Bull Dog Power Supply W/Batteries....... Flame On !!!!

Just curious, who is eligible to drive these at Buena Park ? ? ?

Mill from what i know, its gonna be retro power,12.6,,theyre fast enuff that way,, :wacko2:
and Barney is in charge of selecting the drivers,, :sarcastic_hand:

"Why would people subscribe to the thread (to keep informed about changes?) after they'd already thought they understood what this was about. Apparently, a lot of people thought they knew what this was about and were as surprised as I was about the track voltage."

Answer: for the same reason we subscribe to your "Motor" thread, John, because we want to be informed :)

Well...I don't post there anymore Pablo ;) Still, the question remains, when everyone thought they understood what this about (and 14.3V sure wouldn't be included in that)...why look for changes? Like I said:

1)I'm not "voting"
2)This is surely one of the dumber things I've seen regarding "vintage spirit".

Re-Read post # 1154.

If you had a problem with the Voltage, it should have been voiced a long time ago.
Stop trying to change the rules.
The fact you didn't "subscribe" to this thread tells me you didn't want to be informed of updates.
I didn't make the rules, and I didn't mandate the voltages. I just don't feel it fair for you to come in last minute and demand changes after you fell asleep at the switch......if your ears are burning, you know who you are....... :diablo:

I'm pretty sure they will dial back the power once they run a few trials. One look at those old endbells and skinny little 16D brushes and they'll get the picture. :help:

My car is a whopping 137 grams and still seems a little light for all of that torque and horsepower. :heat: The bodies look slick but there is no aero to speak of. By the way, I noticed TonyP added some lead to his chassis. :D

The first knew I new about the voltage @ Eddie's was in this thread
"The Choti winner Is..." in post #12 posted on Sep 17.
So if people didn't read that post, then they wouldn't have known about the voltage till much later.

Was it made public prior to that?

I don't see anything wrong with realising a mistake may have been made (if that's the case), or did not see it, then try to work a way out.

It's not cheating.

Get your balls out, fire'm up, and lets race.
:)

The good news is at 14.3V, the cars might not stay in the slot long enough at one time for the motors to get hot enough
to melt the endbells.

HA! Right on Mike!

We used to run Mura C-Can 27's at 13.8 or more Volts off a dirty battery charger! Sounds good to me.... they will get power down here at 13+v or so..... I'll bet only half the field will make the trip to BPR because of the wall shots and release of the built in smoke! (no since shipping all the carnarge to So Cal anything not running after the first race should just get sent back to the owners....
GOOD LUCK ALL!

14.3 Volts?

I thought it was a Balls Out race and not a demolition derby.

Traditionally the Proxy Thingie Race was run at 12V but who are We to pretend anything from such a bloodthirsty horde?

Exactly. Take any motor from a modern $12 Chinese tosser to a vintage Steube jewel in a Mura C-can and it will have an average lifespan of "X" at 6 volts. Now raise the voltage to 12V and the average will drop precipitously, probably geometrically not linearly. Now raise the voltage to 14+V and the average will drop by another huge jump. That's to say nothing about the other consequences in wall shots and track calls. This doesn't add anything to the supposedly vintage "flavor" of the race (just the opposite), and it certainly won't add to the enjoyment of the people who will actually be driving the cars. For anyone who DID see this and entered a way mild car, congrats! You only did what any smart racer would. For those who thought this was a good idea, I disagree and think it's stupid and completely against what the race was supposed to be about. If speed at all costs is really the aim...why not just allow strap motors and "real" wing car bodies? People could then build the lightest single piece of wire perimeter chassis or tripod and we could forego all this pretending about "the spirit of the thingie".

-john

PS (edit)...I'm really just looking to understand the "why" about the 14.3V thing. Again, I'm not looking to change things.

John, I am sure not a single one of us think high voltage is a good idea for this race.
If you feel this way, why didn't you bring this up before we mailed the cars ?
I share your concern.
I also have faith in Jairus.
Why can't you guys just relax.
The time to challenge and complain was four months ago. Not now. :bomb:

I, and others, have explained this already.

I am not "challenging or complaining". The race will be what it will be and I don't expect anything other to come from this than (hopefully) an explanation as to why this was even considered...much less planned.

"was the voltage announced four months ago?"

No. It was announced 16 September, 2012, and you waited twelve days to complain.
Fact.
I'm not making this up, I call balls and strikes as I see them.
I see a lot of procrastinators here, same as previous proxy races.
No way would you ever want me to host a proxy race, because I have zero tolerance.

Gentlemen, good morning! :hi:

We are a little over 24 hours out till the first race. I believe Randy will post a list of the cars that he has ready to go after the mail has been received. He works during the day so please don't bug him, he will post a list this afternoon. I am sure your car is here by now Jaak. If not... it will race in the second race regardless.

As for power concerns... I am not worried about my car at all. The reason is because the drivers have been instructed to drive laps, not drive the car! So I doubt that they will be thrashing or trashing the cars in the least. This will NOT BE A CRASH FEST! Both Barney and Randy understand that the cars are the stars and to simply pilot them so as to keep them in the slot.
That means the only time the motors will be sucking 14 volts is on the straight. If anything burns up it will do so because of the normal reasons and not because the drivers were trying to destroy the car!

Okay, I have to head off to work in 30 minutes. Be gone for most of the day so play nice.

I hope i am not been seen as a procrastinator,
but my car was already in the post when the post i missed at 16 September the voltage was announced in a different thread.
And my motor was ordered way before that..

I am not protesting just explaining a different viewpoint to the matter,
it seems the post is letting me down anyways :cray:

Jairus i would greatly appreciate if it ever arrives in-time for the second race that it could at least participate there.
