Why do they call this a Balls Out Race, if you left your balls somewhere else ? ? ? Wind them up, epoxy the crap out of the arm, bullet proof them and race them.... The Arco Thingie Race at Don's Raceway in the late 60's, we had guys running 23 single winds, and they not only finished the race but were rockets. We ran ultra light weight chassis, just used the aero side dams to help the down force, and these things jetted for the day. Nobody worried about a motor....... Why didn't they call this the TEA AND CRUMPETS EXTENDED PINKIE RACE FOR CHOTI STYLE BODIES ??? Pablo, you and I are together in this attitude when it comes to the race...... I am going to watch them at Buena Park, just to see the unique cars, and watch the carnage....
SO why didnt YOU build one,or have one built and enter ,instead of your sudden interest & putting in your 2 cents
as a non racer

Concours:
I would vote a tie between Eduardo, and chief32s.
With Mike K car very very close.
All three of those cars are so SANO, they are sick
and Mike Kravitz made his own stencils and painted the car himself,,,id vote for him too

Oscar, I have no intention of racing in one of these, I might drive one like I did in the last race if asked, but we are all just having some fun, at least Pablo and I were, so take it easy, the fate of the free world is not riding on these races !SO why didnt YOU build one,or have one built and enter ,instead of your sudden interest & putting in your 2 cents
as a non racer
Oh Wait, I guess I was a racer in the last one.....

I'm pretty sure the voltage is the same all around the track.
It's the amps that suck(ed up) in different places.
A DC motor will draw as many amps as it "needs" depending on load, and will rev as fast as it can depending on voltage applied from the controller up to the limit the track is supplying. The controller doesn't limit amps, it limits voltage.
To be clear, hook up a motor to a power supply set at 3V, now turn up the voltage slowly and listen to the revs. That's basically what is happening on the track. The track has a set voltage that is regulated through the controller from 0V to whatever the maximum voltage supplied is. As you squeeze the trigger, you're supplying higher and higher voltage to the car on your lane up to the maximum for that track. The voltage is NOT the same "around the track".
On the other hand, the motor will draw current (up to the maximum available) depending on the load... up to the stall point. You can test this by pinching the shaft of a motor spinning at a fixed voltage. Don't change the voltage, but watch what happens as more and more load is applied by trying to slow the armature down (assuming you have a power supply that also reads DC current)...current draw will rise until if and when you actually stall the motor., because it's being asked to do more work (watts/horsepower). The same characteristic was beautifully illustrated in "Forbidden Planet" when Morbius' "id monster" was melting through all that Krell metal to get at them, it simply was drawing as much power as it needed (up to the maximum available...which was a LOT) to get the job done.
So, the track supplies the maximum voltage and amperage. The driver regulates how much voltage is sent to his car through the controller. Every time the controller is at full throttle (not just necessarily on the straight leading to the bank), the car is seeing the maximum voltage (14.3V in this case). Depending on the gearing, the drag of the gear mesh and axle bearings and the weight of the cars, two cars with theoretically identical motors and under the same applied voltage could be drawing very different amounts of current.

Two things to tell you this fine Saturday morning.
Number one is that we now have a concourse poll up on the Cars of the Balls Out Proxy thread. Included is Eddie Lawley who went to the trouble of building a car and after testing it deemed it not race worthy and pulled out of the race. He still bought a shirt and finished a beautiful car so I left it up.
In the past, a car had to race to win so don't bother bringing that up again please. If you don't agree with me then don't vote for his car. But it's beautiful none the less!
Number two is I talked to Randy last night and he will ask Eddie to turn off the battery charger during the race. This will mean that the race will take place on batteries only just like B.P. So the voltage issue is moot at this point!
Number three is that tomorrow is the race so good luck to all entrants, drivers and especially track marshals.

I KNOW that you will!
Just nervously anxious and excited.
Maybe it will be short-lived and end up broken against a wall or smokes it too soon!
Why?
Car is too light and untested!
Not fine tuned as it should have been.
Local Raceway track closed!
The motor is an endbell drive old Mabuchi based motor that was NOT originally planned for this event.
But still prepared by Motor Guru John Havlicek!
Still at least has a Ball Bearing in the Kimble-Bearing side can.
Nevertheless I proudly entered it for the SPIRIT of the competition and comraderie among entrants.
I hope it sees the light of day to race at Buena Park as well!
That is my dream.
Live life to the Maximo!!!

Our Retro Pro power runs a 75amp Bulldog Power supply thru a huge cap then across batteries so power at the driver station is about 13v for everyone's info.

Congratulations to all 19 for NO burned up motors. In fact only Al's car it seems, failed to finish due to a de-glued rear tire (that seem weird?).
So... 18 cars proceed to the next race. Congratulations to Tony P for his win in the first round.
I got up late and now have to grab a shower and head to work or I would spend most of the morning gabbing with you guys.
Randy's only notes to me were that a few of the cars were a handful to drive. Other than that he didn't say much about individual entries so the results speak for themselves I suppose.
(Guess I should have kept the gear ratio higher than 4.4/1 huh?)
Ciao
