The clearance finally crept down below .050" (on the lower side) at the 56 hr. mark.
The car is at 58 hrs.+ and still zero failures.

It's probably not a bad feature for a rental car, where it will give the new racer the best chance possible to stop for a wreck.

In the last 4 hrs. or so, the tires "equalized" themselves and the clearance is back to even,
on both sides, a hair over .047".
Jerry is sending me a spare pair of tires in case the existing tires outlast the Hawk 25.
I think the criteria for changing will be when the center section starts showing any arcing.

Bob, UR too funny.
I found it interesting as I have often set up a car to run around my mobile tracks as display for hours at a time. I have also learned many interesting things running various types of cars on my mobile tracks.
Fisrt thing comes to mind is that I usually run my braid till there's about 1/8" left

Using the "china" plafit type motors has been allowed me to run motors for many many hours before changing them out.

Yeah , I like to have a bit of fun with slot racing.
I think I mentioned at least once in previous posts I changed the braid just to keep the Hawk 25
maxed out.
It turns out the latest (3rd) pair of braid I have in the car, some JK "hard",
I pulled off of a older JK RTR, is still looking terrific after 14 hrs.
I wish I would of started with them.
BTW, the car is now over 68 hrs., trouble free.

It was never meant to surpass the 81 hr. run of the Champion 707BB powered cars back in '67, but it wound up
doing it anyway.
It hasn't traveled quite as far, but it didn't run on a 60 degree banked oval, either.
To sum it up, the car has run trouble free for, now, 82 hrs.
It's run 10 minute to 5 hr. intervals, depending on track availability on the King.
About 98% of it has been at full speed on 12.1V, just slow enough to make it around Orange without
needing a driver.
Braid was changed twice to keep the motor running at it's full potential.
No other parts replacement.
No mechanical adjustments other than the nose of the body being trimmed up for clearance as the tires wore down.
Before each run, the car was oiled,(axle bushings and can bushing and very occasionally, I touched the wet oiler needle on the endbell bushing), the braid and the bottom of the car was cleaned.

Hawk 25, ran over 24 hrs.
Maybe, I'm a little surprised it's been running, for now, going on 83 hrs.
I'm more impressed with:
1) the car broke the 81 hr. barrier on one set of foam (Wonder) style tires, IOW, NOT silicones.
Especially since it did not start with excessive clearance (approx. .080")
At the last time I checked, at the 77 hour mark, it still had .045" on the gear side,
and .042" on the opposite side. (outside tire in the bank)
2) the gears went all the way, without any adjustments.
And with an average amount of lash to start, and "stop now" brakes.
JK's new non-magnetic pinion is truly a marvel.
3) The lead wire has gone all the way, and at last check, is still perfect.
That stinker, Jerry, is better with a soldering iron than I give him credit for.

Actually, it has.Remember this thing is not running in to anything.
It's done some time as a regular rental car, including Steve Grider's 3 yr. old son giving it a spin on a lane where it wasn't punched.
Regardless, "your results might vary".
But, IMO, some of the above stuff is still impressive, even if a car ran in a vacuum.

7 hrs. and 10 minutes straight.
That brings the car up to 84 hrs. and 20 minutes.
Rear clearance still looks pretty good.
.043"/.040".
It might make it 100 hrs.
I popped the body and checked both brushes.
They look like they have somewhere between 25-35% left.
Lead wire still appears to be virtually perfect.
No broken strands I can spot.
Pinion is still immaculate.
Spur gear is still good.
The latest pr. of braid looks spectacular for 30+ Hrs. of use,
I'm guessing, benefiting from a more optimum contact angle,
resulting from the lower clearance in back.

Very intereting. This is the firm braid?

Very intereting. This is the firm braid?
It's a stiff braid I pulled off of a JK RTR car.
FWIW, I don't see it as any advantage on a "race car".

On the original, short tires, the White Shadow ran 9 hrs. straight, no sweat.
I'll be putting it away at 93 hrs., 20 minutes, for at least a week,so I can give the track a well needed and deserved cleaning, so guys can start testing seriously, for the Sano warm-up race next Sunday.
