Here is the car with a Dilworth Elfin body painted and mounted, with aero additions per 1970 NCC rules. Just need to do the interior to finish it off. The car will make it's track debut at Retropalooza in 2 weeks.

Track test results:  not great.  Has great speed, handles OK, but lacks brakes, and old blue tires lack traction.

I'm going to install a 7T pinion instead of an 8, and switch to modern donuts.

All that plating slows a car down too. :sarcastic_hand:

That's what I've always said about my NCC 20 chassis. :)

Further details: the car was run on the blue king at HVR after last weekend's Retropalooza race.  A few folks tried out the car, including veteran pro racer Ed Sohl. The car has great speed, but was still winding out when it hit the bank.  That and the fact that the tires did not have the best of traction caused the right rear to get badly chunked on the outside edge.  Motor really sings, darn good for a 40+ year old armature.

So, the car will be heading back to Pablo's garage for a tune-up. I'll have it out at the Retro East enduro on June 29th.

Tune up time:

Blue tires looked cool, but we got over it :D  Moving onward to Alpha Super Natural donuts:

Need to swap 8T pinion to a 7T, and as long as she is here in the garage, might as well upgrade the endbell.  The old Mura has seen better days, and the new Tradeship with Pro Slot Ball bearing and hardware is ready to take over.......

More grip does not always improve handling :)  Only testing will tell.....

Oh I agree it doesn't always improve things, but with the way this was handling fresh rubber couldnt hurt, maybe a little bit of lead in the right places may help ?

Does Pablo's garage service include a wash &wax? :D

No more lead for this sled, it already weighs a short ton :laugh2:

It's already shiny and plated, no shine needed.

Time for lead wire connections. My Hakko 454 is a "one-trick pony".

I only use it for 2 things: Lead wires, and very fine plumber wire joints.

I'm always jealous of dc-65x' sano lead wire works, so this satisfies that need......

Track test results: John says gearing is much better, better brakes and runs cooler.
He says the SBR rubber works better than Super Natural.

My job here is done <G>

Are you using slotted motor mounting screws to be "period correct"?

Those things were bad enough when I had younger eyes.  Now I find them intolerable.   :)

No, I used screws that fit the EB threads and the bracket the best.
Not only that, the heads had some material removed to make them fit even better.
