Gold Dust brushes pre-radiused and marked pos and neg:

DSC07060.JPG

Kamen 16D mags fit perfect and will be shimmed to produce a hole of .535, giving an airgap of 18 thou.  Waiting for 10 thou steel shim stock, before I JB Weld the mags in.  I spaced the arm where I wanted it, and determined the proper placement of the mags fore and aft is exactly .187 abaft of the front edge of the can. Hey cheater, how do you like me now ? :laugh2:

Looking good Pablo :D

That motor is really coming together nicely! Can't wait to hear the report on how it runs/sounds!

Got the 10 thou steel shim stock from Hobbylink.com.

JB Welded the first of probably two sets of shims to the mags. I guess if I had used 20 thou, I could have done it with a single set of shims,  But 20 thou would have been hard to work with, and I'm in no hurry.

.535 slug in place with a single wrap of double sided Scotch Tape.

Spaced at .187 from the front of the can.

Should be perfect.  Time will tell. :D

Getting there Pablo! Looking better with each step of the motor preparation :)

Can't wait to see it with that sweet group 20 arm nestled inside.

The stock EB bushing turned out to be a little sloppier than I thought, so I went ahead and tried reaming out to a 5 MM hole for a Slick 7 ball bearing. It worked !

Now the Loctite dries and I gotta get to bed......

Mission Accomplished, John :D

The raspy sound is gone with the new BB.  Broke 'er in, and she runs cool and smooth.

Draws only 1.3 Amps at 5 Volts, and revs real free and clean.

Next step:  Can paint :D

Thanks :D

The curly cue thingies are just pieces of cotton ball :)

If you look into the 2 holes very closely you can see Hershman made some very small new cuts into the existing holes.

I'm having second thoughts on the 8T pinion.

8/34 with the .875 wheels gives final drive ratio of 4.86

7/34 with the .875 wheels gives final drive ratio of 5.55

What do you guys think, 7 or 8 ?

Airgap is 20 thou, mags are Kamen D can, chassis is heavy.

I have some old magazines I can check tonight to see if there is any info on appropriate ratios. IIRC, I think I ran Grp22/27 cars in the high 4 point something range, back in the day.

Drivetrain test satisfactory. The gear mesh sounded the best when it was slightly "loose".

So that is where it ended up. Sounds like a runner to me........

Oooooops, this body won't work, it's too narrow. :sorry:

The chassis width mikes at 3.170 and the body is 3.00

When I install the clips, the body squeezes the pans up.

Lemme look in my vintage body box of horrors  and see what will work...... :scare:
