Hey , John, a Falcon 2 lasts through an enduro, we have run them in 3 , and never had one blow..... Of Course, it depends on your voltage and trackpower, but why do you need to run on higher voltage anyway ??? Jim Fowler runs a Slick 7 Mini Brute in their series, and they have close racing, and so it separates the good drivers and good design for lesser ones.... If you are not racing for anything in particular, why do you care how fast you go, if it is a level playing field for everyone ? Just curious, because we all hear about these motors, and if we all ran Falcon 2's, it might not be a bad thing.... They are cheap, they last on our flat track, and are plentiful.....Tim, your last line is the real key....enjoy retro racing! I do it for fun, not a trophy. We're all looking forward to the annual enduro this coming Saturday, it's a blast.
Hmmm...I wonder if an FK motor would last 6 hours???? (all in fun...)

yes Mill, the Asian PD, IIRC is #4002. You guys should try them, they are the same price and would run well and be reliable on the low volts you race on. I wonder, how the BP racers would choose, given the choice? You can throw those away when they are used up or send them to me. hahahahahaha

ASIAN PUPPY DOG, the motor that nobody new about in the IRRA for a number of Years ???
Mill,
Unless you can elaborate on the above, your comment is vague, inaccurate, or both.

Mill, I'm not talking about Falcon 2s...we use them in the JD cars and they do seem to last, probably because they are not as "hot" of a wind as the F7. But the 2s are not readily available either...my local raceway tried for 3 months from 4 different distributors. I guess they didn't have the right "connections"??
And I was referring to F7/TSR motors.
Unlike you guys at BPR, we race at 6 different raceways. We do not have the luxury of asking them all to "turn down" the voltage, if that's even possible. So everything I have posted (as I noted) is in the frame of reference for the circumstances at hand. As I said to Tim, you race only at BPR, correct? So you have a very narrow viewpoint from which to see the situation. Maybe if you make it out here to the Fall Brawl you'll have a different perspective, even if you still don't agree with the way IRRA does things.
The mini-brute is a decent motor, but quite frankly, it would be very boring on the tracks we run on. The PD motors strike me as a good balance of power versus the handling of the current state of the cars.
Hey, I applaud the SCRRA and Jim Fowlers group for doing what works for them. I don't question why you guys do what you do, so why does everyone keep questioning why the IRRA does thing the way they do? It works for the people involved, so I just don't get why the questioning always comes up in every motor discussion.

For the sake of accuracy in this thread, it is the 4002. ( Fred had it as a 4002C earlier in this thread)
They are not the same price as FK's which is $11.95 at the moment.
They retail for $13.95.

Yeah---it's definitely a BENEFIT to be able to run the FK motors at LESS than 13 volts if possible. They run nearly as fast--don't heat up--and last a LOT longer. So that's eliminated our reliability issues out here. YES---we only run at BPR---but now we are starting retro racing on the wonderful "Cave" flat track!! And that voltage is 13.0 I believe. My understanding is the PD's DON'T work well on lower voltage??
Mill's referring to what we heard about the chinese motors that came in with LESS winds on them than the american PD's--and Hershmann among other's KNEW this and continued to race them against the regular PD's/ but that's another story!!
Like I said---enjoy your PD's-- we don't need them out here. IF we come back there and need to--we'll buy PD's and race with them!! Until then--enjoy your retro as much as we do!!
I hope you find your "holy grail" of slot car motor!! All I know---MORE choices are NOT necessary better!! Just confusing and dividing! Pick one---use only that one--be happy as you can!!

FWIW, we race both out here. The thread has nothing to do with PDS and was only started to inform folks about the FK situation.
