Last Friday (6-13-14) was a historical night here at BPR. It looked like we were going have 3 seperate racers but at the end of it all, it was just an "A" and "B" main. For the "B" race, it was a tight battle for 1st place between Max and Russ. Halfway thru Max had a 8 lap lead but by the start of the last heat it was Russ by 3 laps. At the end, it was Russ in first place with 289, Max with 288, and Phil with 277 laps. After the "B" main, the track was running very quick which is a recipe for some low numbers. On to the "A" main, when the first heat started Jim backed off going in to the first turn knowing a crash will more than likely happen and sure enough it did and Jim sailed thru the mess no problem and was in the donut when the power was shut off. Pulling away from the rest of the field and finishing the first heat with a 3 lap lead. Sadly the 3 lap lead didn't matter because we had a computer malfunction and had to start the whole race over. At the restart of the race, Jim held off again but this time it cost him when everyone made it thru the first corner no problem. With half a lap to make up, Jim still finished with 41 laps along with Stu and Pepper. Jim ran 37 laps purple, which in his opinion is very sub-standard. Jim and Pepper gave the race up to Stu after they both had bad heats on purple and black. In months past, running a 4.1 has accured a lot more often. Then you might see someone(Jim or Stu) run a 4.0 but no one has broke the berrier of below a 4.0. This night was different though, with a fast track and some even faster fingers, 4.0 was finally beaten. No surprise here but Jim had the time of the night, or should i say times. Jim's son Phil was running the race and was calling out the times. Jim turned 6 or 7 laps in the 3.9's but couldn't finish in 1st place. The final standings were; Stu, Jim, Pepper, Walt, and Tyler. Hope to see everyone next week.

Friday night and the womp racers are being welcomed in by Debby, Jim is out running some errands. Daniel, who was here last week, is here again. Stu is in Las Vegas bowling so no Stu and no Walt this week. Jim is here and Tyler is with him along with a friend of Tyler named Robert who has offered to marshal some. Just got a call from Pepper, he says he is 5 minutes away. Tim is here again, nice to have him well again. Scott and Mel are here and Jim is trying his car on white. After 3 laps he turned a 3.99, I guess Jim is ready. Then the heart flutter that has been bothering him for the last couple of weeks started amd his night was over. That opened up the race for guys other than Jim and Stu who have done most of the winning. Could be the week that Max steps up, Pepper or Mel would seem to be the favorites but there could be a dark horse out there. Tyler can be very fast sometimes but inconsistant other times. Same goes for Russ. Running the race in the 4 drivers on at a time format makes it difficult to determine who is running the best. You can look at average laps but you still have to look at what lanes have been run. There were a couple of things that were obvious. Max and Tim were not having great races and Scott was driving far better than he ever had. Pepper was doing what was expected along with Mel and Scott and Tyler were right there with them. By the time the race shifted to the lower lanes Max was on his second car having borrowed one of Mels. Tim had bent his once to often and Daniel was still learning the track. As the racers each finished their heat on yellow and posted their final lap total the standings were being set. Mel posted a 296 then Scott a 293. Tyler's last heat was heat 14 when he posted a 297 to beat Mel by a lap and took the lead only to be passed by Pepper after heat 15. Heat 16 brought no changes to the podium so the final was; Pepper, Tyler, Mel, Scott, Russ, Max, Tim, and Daniel.

June 27th 2014 was another fun night of racing here at Buena Park Raceway. We had 11 racers who made it out this week so we had 6 guys in the B's and 5 in the A's. In the "B" main, Chuck Crawford was in 6th place after the 3rd heat. Chuck was able to work his way thru the field passing Kyle, Tim and Scott leaving him a shot at the podium. He finished in 3rd place with 273 laps. Russ Uppman finished this week in 2nd place with 279 laps. Russ was tied with Max Bowers but in heat 6, Max really kicked it into gear with some really good lap totals in the high thirties. Max finished 9 laps ahead of Russ with 288 and he was able to pull out the win. In the "A" main, Jim dropped about 5 laps so for the remainder of the race he was trying to pass Walt and get out of 5th place. Pepper dropped to 3rd place in heat 5. He pulled out back to back 40's and finished 1 lap ahead of Stu and finished in 1st place. the final order was Pepper, Stu, Walt, Jim, and Mel.

Another Friday night came and went, July 11th 2014 was just another fun night here at BPR. With both an "A" and a "B" main, and a freshly cleaned track, it was shaping up to be a fun night. With a clean track comes fresh glue, and with fresh glue it takes time break In. The "B" main was up first and we had 5 races this week. Max started well finished 1 lap ahead of the field after the first heat. Phil hit the tough lanes and moved back behind Scott. The final order Max, Scott, Russ, Phil, and Matt. Once the "B" main was complete, the glue on the track was sitting a little better and Tyler showed us that in the first heat of the "A" main when he turned 4.10 and jumped to an early lead. He did fall off a couple times giving Jim a chance to tie for the lead. Tyler turned a big 40 in heat 5 while Stu turned 35 on black. Heat 7 Stu took second from Tyler and it was shaping up to be a real good looking finish. The final was Jim, Stu, Tyler, Walt, and Pepper.

July 18 2014 was an extra special Friday for it was Jim's birthday. To the racers that made it on time received a cupcake. Sadly Jim didn't get to race as there was no one to run the race. We had 8 racers that night so the split was pretty easy, just 4 and 4. In the "B" main, Russ took a 2 lap lead after the first heat and things didn't change too much after that. With time running out Scott got his act together and started winning heat after heat. Tim battled with Scott for a couple heats but then dropped back. Russ finished in 1st place with 277, Scott in 2nd with 275, and Tim 263. On to the "A" main, in the first heat we saw Tyler pull out a couple laps on Max and Pepper with Mike bringing up the rear. After the 3rd heat, Tyler had a 5 lap lead on the rest of the field who was stuck at 111. After heat 4, Max moved back to 2nd and Pepper dropped to last place. Tyler continued to move forward with his lead which was now 8 laps after heat 5. Everyone seemed to be waiting for Tyler to fall off but he kept trucking along and extending his lead which was now 11 laps. After heat 6, Pepper moved past Max into 2nd place. Heat 7 saw no change although Pepper was trying to close the gap on Tyler. Going into the last heat all eyes were on Max who was 40 laps short from the 300 club. Max was on orange, which is a fast lane, but could he do a 40 and join the 300 club? Tyler had 271 laps and only needed 29 laps to join as well. History has shown with Max that he has gotten close before a few times but had always fallen short. The slot-car Gods were looking down on Max this night as he got his 40 laps and hit that magical 300 number. We welcomed 2 racers to the 300 club, Tyler and Max. Congrats to Max and Tyler on their excellent driving. The final order was Tyler, Pepper, Max, and Mike.

August 1st 2014 was another Friday night of racing fun. The regular crowd started to appear along with a few faces we haven't seen in a while. Mel's grandson Alex is back along with some drag racing guys consisting of Chuck and Chris Murray. We had a total of 11 guys racing, so we split 6 A's and 5 B's . First in the B's, once again Max got a chance to prove why he should be in the A class. The first 3 heats were close but Max ended up with a 2 lap lead over Scott. Max turned 39 laps in heat 4, then followed that up with a 38 to extend his lead to 8. It was around this time that Max and Chuck exchanged some paint in the bank. max was following Chuck for a lap or so and he thought he saw an opening but it turns out he was wrong. Chuck decided he had enough fun for one day and dropped out of the race. Heat 6 brought Alex charging and he shortened the gap to just 3 laps. At the end of heat 7, Alex and Scott were tied. Scott managed to move past Alex in the final heat and finished 1 lap ahead of him. The final results; Max, Scott, Alex, Chris, and Chuck. Now on to the A main, The first heat was close between Stu, Jim, Mike, and Mel. Heat 2 Stu pulled up even with Jim just behind Mike. Jim had a great purple but fell apart on black only turning 34 laps. Heat 5 is where Stu and Mike stumbled and Jim took this opportunity to get back in the race by turning 41 orange. Jim followed that 41 with another 41 in heat 6 and retook the lead. Jim, Stu, and Mike were all tied at 224 half way through the heat. After heat 6 Jim had 1 lap on Mike. After heat 7 Mike and Jim were even which was shaping up to be a great finish. During the last heat the lead was exchanged multiple times between Jim and Mike but Jim was able to pull out a 2 lap lead in the last minute. the final was; Jim, Mike, Stu, Mel, Tyler, and Walt.
