March 20 2015
Friday night and it's time for the weekly battle on the Kingleman… yep, Womp Night!
With a number of the "North of LA" crew in the house we had 13 racers, 7 B and 6 A
B Racers,
The B started out tight with everyone turning some fine lap totals for their lane. After a couple of heats Scott, Beau, and Brandon began to separate themselves from the pack.
Then Steve noticed the new HO track is much shorter than the Kingleman and thus could make some real quick laps, so he took a quick right on the left hand high bank and launched over the gap… but he forgot the blade on his Womp's guide is much wider than the slot in the HO track and got nowhere fast.
A for originality, A for launch, A- for landing, however an F for laps!
After we convinced Steve staying on the Kingleman was his best bet we got rolling again. By this time Beau had a solid lock on 3rd and Brandon was closing in on Scott's lead. With seconds to go Scott uttered his death nail with "oh crap", yep he deslotted and Brandon drove past the wreckage. Final podium order Brandon, Scott, and Beau.
And a little tip for all racers, never let your son put your name on the sign-up sheet… Nick learned that the hard way.
A Racers,
With all that excitement in the B you'd think the A would be a sleeper, not so. After being away for a few weeks Stu came back and was simply smooth as silk, he just doesn't come off and gets into an unflappable rhythm. It was Mel, Race, and Pepper who swapped places all night long.
Pepper did have an interesting start to the race, he was testing some kind of Telekinesis or wire-less controller, but his car went nowhere. So after everyone turned a lap he decided to go old school and hook up his control to the driver's panel. Looking forward to seeing Pepper try this new technology out again in the future!
Around the beginning of heat 7 it was obvious that 2nd through 4th were going to come down to the wire. In the last two Mel managed to come up with a couple of extra laps, Race and Pepper finished just feet apart. Paul and Max also finished with the same lap totals but about half a track apart. The final was Stu, Mel, and Race.
