Pretty impressive turn out. Wish I got there early enough sat to see them run.
It sure was great to see you Grant and Terry to stop by.
You're in next year ... I see an evil Sports Car coming into focus. It's orange, it's got 9s on it and a 65 in it.

Already consulted the 6 year old about what car she wants for next year and one has been selected
Now to actually try and build the cars with no thrashing involved

Thanks Paul ... it couldn't happen without guys like you trusting us with your special cars.
It sure would be cool if all you guys could come.
I know you guys all want to see 'how'd my car do?'
Two years with-out video, damn it. .... Next year we are going to get a pro video guy or live stream will be set up. To much great action to not be etched for-ever.
I was 'handling things' and didn't see every race so I hope Charlie. BillB or others can fill in and comment on many passes that I missed.
The time slips returning will tell a ya'll 'how'd my car do' but ... action shots, video and commentary tell the story.

Here is the 'for all the money' race.
Don's Stock class factory backed Mopar with Kenny handling the driving duty fought off all comers and meet David's Smokem1 "Kemosabe" Rail in the final with a 1.183 @ 33.10 to a losing 1.428 @ 28.47 MPH.
Great showing this year by Don after having 'handling' issues last year and David is our repeat winner.
Congratulations to the 2015 "Rods and Rails" Champion !!!

MELBOURNE, FL - (15 MAY 2015) - We enjoyed another great weekend of 5.5, 2.9 LEGENDS, Bracket Racing and the "Marquis Event": 2ND ANNUAL RODS & RAILS PROXY DRAG RACES.
Friday night our entries were down a bit, but that was largely due to so many of our drivers having to choose between racing Friday night or piloting Proxy Cars Saturday afternoon. Several of you were able to do both and we are grateful to everone who participated Friday night, Saturday afternoon or both!
All I can say about Saturday is WOW! We had a good field of PROXY DRAGSTERS and the pits looked like a photo out of CAR MODEL from 1968! There were lots of interesting, well engineered pieces, but the star of the show seemed to be the RAMCHARGERS Stock Eliminator entry. It won it's class as the only entry, but when we raced all the class winners against each other, it won pass after pass until it met the Smokum-1 rail in the final. It was a very low-tech piece (even for the mid 60's). From what I was told, it was built around an MPC inline kit the motor of which looked like someone put an armature in a hollowed log! I didn't get a picture of the underside of the car, but there is a photo of it and plenty of others on our FACEBOOK page (www.facebook.com/theRaceway.biz).

Bill Pinch came up with that and it seemed to 'stick' and got a chuckle from the crowd.

I only snapped a few photos on Saturday. Most of my own cars but have some of the other competitors as well. I'll show the times and a comment as I remember.
Gas Class -
Two heavy weight Gassers closely match George H's "Henry J" and Bill B's "Willys"
Neck and neck at the finish line Willys pulled ahead with a 2.102 @ 14.61 to the Henry J's 2.132@ 18.23
With the Willys advancing its next competitor was the VW "Inch Pincher" sent in by Paul E. from Texas.
The strong running Bug easily handled the Willys and moved on to take the Class Win.

Wiggled 3/4 of the track! ? Those rears were lacking grip Or too much weight up front keeping guide in the slot!
One quick question regarding year of build and class rule, the Mrs is liking the standard 32 ford roadsters. No custom work or freaky chassis, no fenders etc, just a sweet rod...would this be fine for the "roadster " class?

Don
Shared fun note: The centerline body screws were starting to come loose as the car was making 'so many' passes. As Kenny sat it on the track before tightening the screws made like the big torque motor shift action.. Varoom-Varrrooom. ... It was classic.
The car was fun and consistently fast and Kenny's lights was .... 'big show'.

Not sure but this might have been the finals in the Altered Class.
Paul E's super looking "Magic Muffler" vs Bill B,
Both cars are Fiat Topolino's. Paul is running a Big Block Kemtron. Bill's a Small Block Pittman 65. Both made strong passes in each lane with the win going to Bill B. 1.541 @ 25.40 to Paul's 1.637@ 25.33. The Yellow Topo took the Altered Class Win.

Comp. Coupe -
As far as I know this was the closest race of the day. All the way from Paris France Don S. sent this wild looking fire breathing machine the "Red Turbo", paired up against Bill B's Orange AA/FC Rail. The Red Turbo ran a Pittman 65 (correct me if I'm wrong) in a well designed and constructed brass chassis. The Orange Rail runs a Pittman 84 in a Russ Kit Mach 1 chassis. Very closely match the final run came down to .009 margin. Turbo ran a 1.457 @ 28.79 the Orange Rail a 1.448 @ 24.99. Bill's Orange AA/FC Rail takes the Comp. Coupe Win.

Bob, just wondering, is the entire strip glued per modern protocol or just the shut off area?

Competition Eliminator -
These proved to be the most exciting races of the day. Don's "Ramchargers Dodge" was for sure the crowds favorite.
Here the Dodge gets ready to mow over Bill's Fiat. Dodge ran a strong 1.430 @ 28.50 to the Fiats 1.537 @ 25.14.
Gator Bob edit: Great race. This match up is Stock meets Altered in one of the "Rods" class runoffs to race for 'all the money'.

Rick, as far as I'm aware it only has the heavy glue shut off area ..although Bob/Bill can confirm for sure

Rick,
Heavy glue shut off, impossible to keep it of the lane, the first 60ft or so was cleaned fairly often by a racer doing his lane. Tires are 'cardboarded, by the racer on the way back to the pits.
A long track would be ideal ... 'parking lot size?' haha

I'll do all the classes like this ... but never again ..Too tedious for people with ADD.
It's 'cubical work' and I don't do well in confined spaces or look good in a short skirt and heels.
The track computer has the data ... now spit it out.
Or .... I can just recreate it from little scraps of yellow paper all over my desk.....

Holy cow, shut down by .009"! Sounds like a great race, and glad to hear my Firebolt was running well.
That is indeed a DC65-6 Bill, straight out of the box, my own chassis, but adapted from the Cox DC65 model (that has now been under 3 different cars in the last 40 years...), and an old Monogram Firebolt model - Paul's urethane tires too.
