Congratulations, this is good news for you and your customers.

 

We lost the last commercial raceway in NH during 2010.

From the time, seven months ago, when my landlord and myself came to a verbal agreement, and I posted the above, until today, when I actually signed the extension, I cranked up my considerable charm to "11." and convinced her to lengthen the extension to three years, instead of two.

Why do I post publicly on matters like this?

Because when I first opened, almost 12 years ago, I had a few people coming in, complaining that a local raceway sold them RTR cars, one weekend, but not mentioning they were closing in the next few days.

I'd say, I currently get about 5-10% of my customers, who are going to buy a car, or make some sort of reasonable financial committment, ask me for some reassurance that I'll still be in business in the future.

 
I cannot tell you how much I empathize with you when it comes to negotiating that brand of customer mistrust. Here in Elyria, the Hubbels ran the Slot Shop with enthusiasm for decades on end, building a clientele and a legacy. When Donna retired, the shops that filled the void were significantly less consistent, meaning that customers have that hesitance to jump back into what was a longtime hobby without the assurance that we're in for the long haul. 

Fortunately, Haven is 100% in for the long haul!

Great news, Mike.

When I got back into the hobby almost three years ago my big concern was putting time and money into an activity with the history of slot cars. That still remains a concern today, but news like this helps.

I was extra charming this weekend.

On Sunday, another grandma paid me a real nice compliment after her grandson's birthday party, and her son-in-law gave me a $30 tip.

Maybe I was still under the influence of the fumes, from 15-20 hours earlier in the week, regluing braid on the Fiedler Flat. LOL.

Slot car raceways do have that trust issue. Many of us have memories of going to darkened raceways, slot car box in hand, only then finding out that they had closed. It's not just the financial cost but the emotional cost as well.
