Looks so wrong the direction the car travels in. It might be we are at the bottom of the world but I have noticed you guys seem to run the opposite way than we do.

I've never seen or heard of anyone who normally runs a King track in the clockwise direction, Trevor, except perhaps as a "novelty" race.

Is there a raceway that runs a King that way where you are?

Before Raceworld Speedway in La Grange, GA, closed we used to have a monthly race with the JK C7 Indy/F1 cars where we would run reverse on their orange track.

It was an absolute hoot once you got used to it. You could easily punch the doughnut on every lane except red and white. Not always possible in the normal direction. I thing reverse on a King would be fun as well.

And technically the correct direction for F1 races, right?

If it is true that F1 races are always run clockwise, then I've learned something today.

Is that a fact?

I'm not an F1 expert of any sort. They were run clockwise at Indy when they raced there I believe. Anyway.

What was the set-up of the car Swiss was driving in the video?

1. Torsion bars used, Y/N?

2. Tuning weight used, Y/N?

3. Rear tire size, .813"/.820"?

4. Rear tires Mfg/type?

Thanks.

I will have to get one of these. Looks like fun.

Setup: rapid_slot 888sr at Chicagoland Raceway 2/7/15

Chassis:

Pan movement: Full

Torsion rods: Yes - .047”

Tuning weight: Yes – 24 grams (total car weight 120 grams)

Components:

Rear Tires: JK .820" - JK-8713E

Front Tires: JK .750" x .225  - JK-8746AF

Motor: JK Retro Hawk

Gearing: 9/28

I will be offering some additional tuning weight options. The 24 gram weight helped but it did make the car feel too heavy for the King track (on the flat track the car was awesome at that weight).

See the attached file for assembly diagram and component list.

Attached File  rapid_slot 888sr.pdf   2.1MB   54 downloads

This is the car from the video...

Steve,

Thanks for the info. Looks like a perfect spec class to replace FCR. Technology is awesome.

There are NO King tracks in New Zealand :(

Formula One races are conducted on both clockwise and anti-clockwise circuits - the majority are run clockwise. See here.

No King tracks here. As far as I know all the tracks around here race in a clockwise direction (not that I've raced on many).

If you look at the link below (which hasn't been updated for a long time) will will see the type of tracks we use. Ron (Zippity) is from the Wellington club. With the exception of the Christchurch club (new track not shown - which has one as far as I know) we  generally don't use banks either.

I think this qualifies as excessive thread drift.

Let's get back to the subject of 3D printing.

I think JK better forget about any new metal chassis in the future. This is the future fer sure!

IMHO there is a place for both types of cars. Us old schoolers will never change completely to plastic cars.

I run with a group that runs mostly 1/32 home set cars from Slot.it, Scalextric, Ninco, and such. But I also run 1/24 on a commercial track. Neither will ever replace the other for me.

This new chassis certainly has a place in commercial racing as a spec chassis. It is easy to set up and does not require any soldering to assemble. And with further development it might become a viable alternative for Retro Can-Am.

Certainly, a "tunnel tub" type chassis is possible with this method of construction. I can tell you that the hot rod class we used to run at Chicagoland was a hoot, and Steve offers a chassis to fit that body, which could be another choice for a spec class.

I am really anxious to see where this technology leads.

I love the looks of the chassis and I like the way it handles. I think it's going to be a success.

Thank you!

I'm glad my car is being so well received. I've put in a fair amount of design and development work and Im hopeful that the slot racing community will appreciate the chassis for its performance value and simplicity.

I dont feel 3D printed cars are going to replace stamped, brass and wire cars. Its just a new platform that might appeal to a new crop of racers.

In the near future I envision racers accessing files from slot car raceways, manufacturers, and distributors (for a small fee) and printing out components on their own personal 3D printer.

Everything looks fast when you do videos of slotcars. What were the lap times??? Looks like a good idea though.

With the Javelin I drove, 5.5, but on only 12V.

Would you know what times a turbo flex would do with the same type of motor

Hard to say for sure, as I've never run that Javelin body before, but I would have to guess very similar, which is impressive considering it's an inline vs. an anglewinder.

I was pushing the car real hard, and it was behaving very predictable.

Note, this was with the optional weight installed.

I recall a 5.4 when you hot lapped the Javelin.

With Dave Crevie as my witness I got the orange car with the Ferrari body into the 5.2-5.3 range on blue lane before changing the chassis setup to get it work on the flat track. Don't ask what my flat track times were, my driving was so rusty I doubt they're even close to what they should have been.

I am would bet if you put a CanAm body on it with Kelly Retro's and ran on 13.2V that thing would be well into  the 4's easy... Maybe Sunday?? ^_^

The chassis with the Red Fox Ferrari 330 body on did get low 5s. Steve is a much better hand on the king track

than I. I have ordered a chassis and my priority will be to tune it for the flat track, which is my preferred venue.

I will keep everyone up to date on how that works out.
