I was told that my section of this forum was not keeping up it's end with new projects.
Soooo....
I present the following challenge to myself.
IMG_1979-vi.jpg

Each one of those bodies will between today and December 1st receive cool paint and a vintage looking brass rod chassis!
That sound like fun?

Lots of choices here: Lotus, Lister, Chevrolet, Maserati, Chaparral and even a VW Beetle!

Eight bodies in total.
IMG_1980-vi.jpg

Today I am cutting brass tube and making up a handfull of motor brackets. But I also have a 26d bracket and a Dynamic 36d bracket that will eventually become a "Detroit Slider", if I can find the correct tongue in my collection of stuff.

Because, I just hate doing the same thing over and over so each chassis will be unique.

But... which to start with?
Corvette?
Beetle?
2C?
:)

Going to be a long thread so stay tuned....

You're as nuts as I am, Jairus !   I spent 2 days of my vacation last month tinning, cleaning, labeling, and storing piano wire from .032 up to .094

Please start with the Chappy because I love seeing your interiors.  Let me know if you lack something I may have.  If I have it and you need it, it's yours.  :good:

Huh... forgot about that. :shok:
Guess I had better hit Professor motor again.
Thanks for the offer Pablo, I'll let you know.  :good:

MIdwest Tongue Don.  Already talked to Rick and he is sending me one.

As for the Birdcage Maserati Bob, I think I got a very special chassis idea for that one.

Fresh off the jig with only a slight cleaning with cleanser and a toothbrush.
Gear guard and drop arm are next.

Hi Jairus,

Nice looking chassis! Looks like you're using the 1-piece, cut it after installation drop arm pivot tube. Cool... :sun_bespectacled:

Always a pleasure to watch your builds :popcorm1:

Thanks guys!
Drop arm and gear guard were installed late last night. But... I am unfortunately stuck at work all day so, no pictures.

Doug, this car will be assembled by the owner from his stock of parts. All I am doing is paint, detail and chassis building.
This evening however, I'll be putting together one set of parts for mocking up all 8 cars to make sure clearances and mounting are done correct so final assembly goes smoothy.

But... one thing I would like is if you guys could identify a couple of the bodies.

IMG_1979-vi.jpg

Chevrolet, Maserati Tipo, Chaparral2c and Chaparral II are known making research easy.
I am pretty sure the remaining two bodies are also Maserati's, but I am having problems identifying them for paint and markings.
Please shout out if you see something you know.

Oh... and the little one in the center is definitely a Lotus, but labeled "Elva"???  Is this right?

Thinking about making the Corvette an early SunoCo version prior to the distinctive hood bulge.

Is one of them like this Jairus?

Looks like a Lister Jag or Lister Chevy on the far right too. Maybe an Elva in the middle........

Okay, here are all the cars in order with help from Rick and my new friend Oliver.

Brasscarsbodies-vi.jpg

1. Maserati Birdcage (Stormer)
2. Maserati 350S (Shark)
3. Elva BMW (Lancer)
4. Volkswagen Beetle (Lancer)
5. Chaparral 2C (Autohobbies)
6. Chaparral 2 (Dubro)
7. '64 Corvette Stingray (Lancer)
8. Lister Jaguar (Lancer)

I have started a folder for each on my computer where I am saving pics for painting and detailing.
The first chassis will be done and in the tumbler tonight before bed.
But I think it'll go under the Maserati 350s first, with a new chassis for the Chaparral 2c.
I'll explain later as the iron is hot and the day was way too long.  I've been looking forward to a little time at the bench this evening.
Ciao

Okay, the chassis is done far as I am concerned.  But it doesn't fit the Chaparral 2c at all.
It DOES however, fit the "Shark" Maserati 350c from 1957 perfectly!  In fact, I think the two are designed for each other.  Tons of room for an interior and any guide will fit.
IMG_1984-vi.jpg

IMG_1985-vi.jpg

Only problem with this body is that it arrived with a dent in the rear panel.....
IMG_1986-vi.jpg

Going to try to take this out with a heat gun and mandrel later.  But for now I am still in the mood to solder so...

... I'm moving onto the previously mentioned Chaparrel 2c which contains a huge wheel track front and rear at 3". Holy Cow!!!
IMG_1987-vi.jpg

This body needs a very different chassis I think.
So considering going 4-rail using a variation of the Sandy Gross 5-railer with one less outside rail and the addition of tilting pans:shok:
4railsexample-vi.jpg

Should be fun!  :wink2:

I love everything I see here, Jairus, especially the pan hinge setup in post # 21.

The Chappy looks like it would support 3 1/8 rear wheel stance to my eyes, Jairus, but you're there and I'm not :)

Paul, actually the rear end is perfect width to fit under the Chappy body.

Front axle needed some trimming but now it's perfect too.  Just need to get the stance right and poke some pin holes.
After that.... we are onto painting a Maserati 350s and a Chaparral 2c.
(Hope the interiors get here tomorrow because I feel like shooting some paint!)
