We mixed things up a little this weekend. Kurt and Chris were the only two racing their own cars. Dave Demott showed up with a controller in his hand so into his other went my Porsche 962. Then a phone call from Carl...." I'm on my way, do you happen to have an extra car?" Never one to deny a friend, into his hand went my Olds 88. Wanting to try something different myself, Kurt hands me his Toyota FRS. Chris too was back this time with a Porsche. It was fun trying out someone else's build, but hard not to watch your own cars as someone else raced them.
Here are this weeks results...
1 Dave Demott Porsche 962 blue/yellow
2 Max Mohring Toyota FRS
3 Kurt Mansfield BMW
4 Chris Wendell Porsche 962 yellow/black
5 Carl Paterson Olds 88

A full field of eight cars filled all the slots for Sunday Hardbody racing at The Race Place. Mike, Tom and some friends from Speed Zone made the journey over to join us. Dave laid it down with his new Porsche followed by Andy and Kurt close behind. I would like to thank everyone for showing up and racing. It has been two years now with a continuously good weekly turnout. Hardbody has become a fun and challenging class that I enjoy being a part of. It would be nothing if not for all my fellow racers.
Here are this weeks results...
1 Dave Demott Porsche 956 yellow/red
2 Andy Sr. Porsche 962 white/pink
3 Kurt Mansfield McLaren orange
4 Tyler Donzella Ford GP5 green
5 Mike Haskins Lola T70
6 Tom Spellcheck Porsche 911 green
7 Rodger A Dodge Challenger
8 Dan M Corvette silver
My apologies with incomplete information as I was not able to attend and am working from pictures sent to me.

The Race Place is back open after a well deserved vacation. The weather is still nice so lots of outdoor activities has kept attendance low. Plus most of TRP racers were out at Fast Tracks in PA for the Penn-Jersey series yesterday. Dave Demott, Tyler Donzella and myself showed up with some new builds and ran some laps. Dave's new Ferrari 430 was fast! Very surprising for such a short wheelbase. With his strategically placed weight and light body the car had lap times in the 6.8's on its first test run. Tyler's new NASCAR body car with a very cool gold-chrome finish was looking about right and his wagon was a handful but fun to watch. I too decided it was time to build a NASCAR, the red Pontiac was my choice. It ran respectfully getting into the 7.1's. KP had us all watching when he pulled out a Hess truck and started running laps on TRP's Hurricane track. A Womp with a 16D motor powered the cab and two "C" sized batteries kept the trailer on the track while powering the lights. Cool looking and fun to watch as the trailer swung the turns. We laughingly discussed ideas of how much fun Hess truck tractor trailer racing could be. That being said, today is Monday and I already have a Hess truck on its way to me from e-bay. Some things are too much fun not to do.

So far we havent been able to get back racing that i have seen. lots of new cars floating around and a few guys testing and what not But we have been unable to all get there at the same time. several of us (guilty) have been engrossed in flexi car racing series' (2) and retro east competition. the wives want to see us occasionally!

Hey Joe-haven't seen you there in a longggg time!! After all, you started this racing group. I know that most of the Hardbody racers are more involved in other classes, but we need to get together to have enough racers for a race every week. I too have been busy but now I have cleaned off my work bench and am back to building and tuning my cars. Hope to see you and the others back at The Race Place soon.

Rich, this is the factory painted Tamiya model kit. I found this as a built slot car on Ebay 10+ years ago. Was built with the no longer offered ProTrack Hardbody brass chassis. The chassis was poorly cut/hacked in half and actually glued together in order to shorten the wheelbase! I took the chassis apart, cleaned up the jagged cuts and properly soldered the chassis together and it then performed great. With our current Hardbody class only the H&R brass chassis is allowed, so I re-purposed this body. Now that I have cleaned off my slot car work bench and am back to building, I also re-purposed my slower Hardbody cars to run on my home set Carrera track. I had plenty of H&R silicone tires for traction, cut down the guide flag heights, adjusted the height of the guide flags, and now have a new group of 1/24 scale cars to run on my home track between races at The Race Place. I find that the shorter wheelbase 1/24 cars perform great on my Carrera plastic track with H&R rear solid sillies and the silicone coated foamies.
