I let Craig know that I'll phone him on Sunday morning with a weather update. If anyone else wants a wake-up call, lemme know. **Note: This is ONLY for those planning on racing! This is King Mini Boola Raceway, not a Motel 5!

I think it's two things that affect the participation: 1. Racers want to race what they already have. and 2. Racers tend to get locked into their geographic comfort zone. If you've got to make many changes to your stuff, or drive very far, you probably ain't coming.
Some interesting thoughts.
I don't know if I would have gotten into retro racing if my friend Oscar (rip) did not handed me a car and said just race it.
Or into 1/32 scene if some friends didn't encouraged me to come to Big Lou's.
Slot racing demands some massive investment in time and equipment. And each particular scale has its own set of particular type of equipment.
Having run all the different scales and their variations, they seem to be different, but they all have some wheels, a motor, and you pull a trigger to make them go.

Yeah, Mike, post those pics so Craig can rub our faces in it! I haven't seen anyone take to driving my track like Craig did!

Thanks Mike, I had a great time in both classes. In practice I didn't think my car was very good but seems that two things happened as the day progressed. The track came to us and I believe the tires on my Group C broke in. By the end of the race the initial loose condition went away and the car was pretty hooked up.
It was a pleasure meeting George and Caspar, always great to see and visit with Craig Williamson and Eddie is a great host. Nice to see Chris again as well. And last but not least. A huge thank you to Mike Low for putting on this series. I'm looking forward to the next one...

Points after Race 1:
Have to reorganize the schedule, as Eddie will not be able to host Race 2, and Rafael's track has sustained water damage from our recent rain season.
Other tracks may come into the series, as a few track owners expressed interest.
Most likely Race 2 will be at Big Lou's, but I need to confirm that. If that is the case, we will be running the Gr C slot.it and the GT class cars.

So, I have been contemplating… for every race you race you will get a raffle ticket for a raffle at the end of series luncheon (will do the Lucille’s BBQ lunch again, will worth it to come and just eat ). I think I will have some Slot.it Gr C cars and other items to raffle off.

Race 2 will be at Big Lou's in Culver City, May 22nd. Track opens at 11am.
Will be running the slot.it Group C and the GT class cars.

Hey Mike, if my NSR car is the better choice for any of the GT races what magnet can I use? I really don't want to chop up the chassis to fit a bar magnet. The NSR's come with a round mag.

Craig,
I presuming you are wanting to run a NSR classic, which is a sidewinder.
So as long as the motor fits the 21.5k short can rule,
you may run the car with the 2000 gauss round magnet located in the front most magnet location
the specified spec is a inline with 2000 gauss magnet in front of motor.
deviations from this like a sidewinder, needs an adjustment in the magnet strength or location
to make it somewhat equal again

Mike , when will you guys be racing at Buena Park ?

Maybe in June. Depends on how many racers are interested in running at BPR.
The issues is suitable tires for the sprayed glued track and if racers are willing to use those tires.
I would prefer to adapt cut down 1/24 type foam tires, i have, and those that race 1/24 would have, many used sets that are too small but can be narrowed and cut down. But how willing the rest of the racers is another question.
We raced at BPR last year with urethane tires on a semi cleaned track, but it took all day for the track to rubber up before the traction got good.
Getting the track cleaned is hard to do. I rather not have the staff at BPR do this just for one race. With foam tires and a sprayed glue track, the traction will be good right away.
We will see.
I will ask the racers at the next race if they would be interested in having a race at BPR. Also those interested can chime in and let me know too.

it is highly recommended that guide flag be the color black for the track at Big Lou's. the lap counting system is in the slot on a long straight.
it is trigger off the guide flag, a light color flag may not trigger.
also low glass filled guides are also recommended. the tight turns causes a lot of stress on the guide and will break high glass filled guides.
