Very nice Pablo.

 

I didn't show the width of my chassis. I didn't want to cause any "weeping and gnashing of teeth" amongst the hard core racers. In order to fit the curved in sides of the vintage Russkit Lola body, the chassis width is 2.875"   Not only that, but I also hid a small piece of piano wire to act as a spring on the outriggers. The curved body sides caused the outriggers to pivot upwards without some slight spring tension to hold them down.

I know exactly what you mean, Rick. (in aviation they would call this an "uncommanded pan tilt event"    

Curved body sides are a PITA; that's one of the reasons I chose the O/S Lotus 40.

 

Speaking of tilt, 3/32 is way more than I want.

Small pieces of .032 brass rod soldered onto the middle main rail make my tilt about .047.

Notice they are positioned to stop the tubes at a 90 degree angle, which dictates they be located slightly inboard and downward off the tops of the rails

 

Good thing I'm almost done with the chassis, 'cuz it needs cleaning BAD

Rear bushing alignment check - still perfect

 

Pin tube ends enlarged for easier pin entry (Mike Steube trick )

 

I'm not sure where I got these intake stacks - they look like pop rivets - and should work nice.

They needed to have the heads reduced with my poor man's lathe to fit in the nest.

 

A test fit with a junk body before I start drilling holes in the painted Lotus 40:

You fooled me at first with that blue body.  Then I read it's reason.   To keep the left/right sides balanced, shouldn't you add a similar size strip to the left as your name tag on the right?

 

My dad had a flaring tool he used with copper tubing & gas fittings. If I ever knew what happened to it, I bet it would work great on aluminum too.

Several things happening in this photo:

-Marklin Train wires will self-center the flag in a vintage car if routed carefully, like these.

-Cobra flag shaft wasn't tall enough for this chassis, so I switched to a Gold Cup. The 7/32 tube is sleeved with a piece of .005 3/16 steel tubing.

-I finally found a use for those Parma flag spacers that don't fit. Too bad I discarded most of them (not visible). They fit Gold Cups perfectly.

-Red Valantine will get a kick out of the width check, 3.000

-Inserts will be at the perfect depth thanks to my axle pre-planning

Passes the drivetrain test with flying colors  

Clears .063 front to rear, level. A pair of Slick 7 steel spacers on both front and rear axles.

 

Looks like I nailed the flag tube height/flag spacer (single 10 thou)/front wheel relationship perfectly, no adjustment needed

Body is done, mounted and trimmed. Not intended to be a masterpiece by any means.

The Noose painted interior is probably worth more than the body, but I think it turned out OK.

Thanks, Bill.  Who knows where all those decals in my "Vintage Drawers of Horrors" came from ?

Remind me next time I apply decals in difficult surfaces like that to buy some Micro Set/Micro Sol.

They crinkled up a little. And someone with a steadier hand than me will have to do the Sharpie details

 

The task for today is shortening the top of the flag tube without disturbing anything with acid and solder.

It hits the body and needs about 50 thou removed. I already shortened the screw but it needs more than that alone.

Calling Capt. Rick, I need a refresher on how to use this special tube cutting gizmo.....

Bill, do you recall where that post is where he cuts tubes after they are already soldered to the bracket ?

Sorry, I don't recall seeing that particular post of Rick's. Was he using something other than a K&S style tube cutter?

It's a "reverse spot facing tool". Car goes into a quart Ziplock bag and gets ready for minor surgery

This will be a piece of cake......once the drill battery charges up
