For the driver, I simply drilled a hole in his neck and Super Glued in a piece of .032 brass rod.

Added body bulletproofing to the interior, punched a hole, snugged up a WalMart earring clutch, and Super Glued the works

Mercedes SLR 300 build is done. The re-pop body wasn't a prize to begin with, but I did enjoy doing the best I could with it :)

I know it looks like the wheelwells are too big, but that's the way the body was designed.

If I had trimmed them to match the wheels, the trim lines would stick out like sore thumbs :sorry:

Onward to the W25 Streamliner build :dance3:

Only his hairdresser knows for sure, Bill :sarcastic_hand:

Track test # 2 results, did about 30 laps today and nothing new to report - it still runs and handles fine even with the actual 1955 style Mercedes Benz body.

I found a quality body for it (not a "re-pop") at Betta in the UK. So I have a new 10 thou Lexan Mercedes Benz SLR 300 body on order:

The original body can serve as a backup, or whatever. I also found some wicked looking Patto's decals for it in "Old German" font style:

Russkit used to sell a similar font in black & white.

Pattos has those, too, and he can print them in any color:

Much better in every way:

IMG_2707.JPG

At first glance the driver looked too modern, but closer inspection reveals teardrop old style goggles and a period correct helmet

What took me by surprise is the dimensions are all totally different than the re-pop.

Some re-thinking is in order...... :scratch_one-s_head:

It's clear the Betta body isn't going to work for this car, so the original body stays.

It is now For Sale in the "Racer's Swap Shop" forum.

Sold.

Bill, I'm already building a Mercedes Benz W25 Streamliner.

Plenty of Tamiya Acrylic Aluminum paint left :yu:
