The water here (about 7 miles away from my old place) is in a different county and it appears just as pure and clear but tastes of slightly higher chlorine content.

Seems to work just as well :good:

 

Bill with his eagle eyes probably thought I'd forgotten this - nope - lately I've been JB Welding them.

Gave me an excuse to sit around all morning eating ham, stuffing mix and apple pie while it cured :dance3:

Why did you go to JB Weld? Actually, I hadn't noticed it missing. :) 

But now that you brought it up, I would have wanted to put the added weight, regardless of how few grams it was, in the center of the chassis for balance purposes. Any offset weight that absolutely had to be placed in one direction could have been counter balanced by a piece of .016 brass placed in the opposite direction. :laugh2: .

I might have put two centersection down-stops further outward from the chassis centerline to free up name tag space in the chassis middle. :crazy:  

But it's still a great looking chassis, Pablo, and Kim should be pleased.

The JB Weld on the brass tags is just something I tried in an effort to not foul it with solder residue, and I liked it.

As far as weight, now you're talking crazy. :crazy: :laugh2:  How heavy is a 15 thou 1/4" by 1/2" brass piece? I weighed one for ya - 0.2 grams.

Speaking of offsets, Bill, note the Iso stop gizmo is off center by .063" to starboard - the tag being located slightly to port counterbalances it. :wacko2:
 
A couple minor problems which I fixed:

- I forgot the doggone flag stops, so I added them then re-tumbled the chassis.
- The Gold Cup flag cracked when I inserted the brushes, so I found a used Cox instead.
 
Assembly is complete (minus rear inserts) and she passes the drivetrain test with the proverbial "flying colors."

First I simply washed it with liquid dish soap and water - amazing improvement

I would have placed the name tag on the bottom of the chassis. That way you wouldn't have to take the body off to determine who made it. :sarcastic_hand:  

My Limpach 888 has the chassis number engraved on the top of the droparm, but the name "Limpach 888" is engraved on its bottom.

My chassis is a low number, so I'm sure it was assembled by Jan Limpach.

Also, the "Built By Jam Limpach" is hand engraved rather than done in block letters made with a set of punches as the later 888s were marked. I think it is #115, but I'll have to check tomorrow.

No doubt I've lost this joust, so I bow to the gentleman from New Hampshire. :blush:  The humor is appreciated. :)
 
Today was a good day for this car:

- a Slotblog friend is sending me the inserts :heart: (another Slotblogger even offered to send me some from 5,000 miles away!! :heart:)
- body trimmed fairly level and mounting holes punched; better than expected given the challenges.
- added a couple new "korrect" decals and dressed up the trim lines a little.

Nice project! 

 

Regards the body, John Dilworth in the UK has managed to re-pull it.

 

He took the mold from a badly warped and damaged original and considering what he had to work with and not having a complete body to compare it with, I think he's done quite a decent job of it! He's also made an interior to suit.

The owner of this particular body won a concours de'elegance with it back in the day, so it has historical value.

 

Doing some freaky experiments today in an attempt to restore the body and match the paint.

Using a spoiler bender to remove the "taco'ed" butyrate on the skirts didn't work:

A stubborn smear of 45 year old glue remained on the left window that refused to budge

One swipe of brushed on glazing medium made it disappear

Model Master "Transparent Red" turned out to be an excellent color match to fix the paint blemishes.

The creases in the skirts are red now  :) along with all the other bad spots

Most of my experiments failed (they always do) but didn't cost much and nothing was ruined :dance3:

For the skirt repair/restoration, acrylic red paint airbrushed on Lexan bulletproofing turned out to be my best option.

1/4" tall strips inside the body skirt bottoms extend slightly past the harpoon holes

It did the best job, IMO, of hiding the bad spots, strengthening the mounting area, and looking original as possible

Time to spray Testors Decal Bonder onto the home made AMON waterslides...... :)

Inserts were .565" OD and needed to be .500".

Since they'll get knock-offs anyway, I punched the nuts out and used my poor man's lathe to trim and true both widths and ODs,
