I built this one yesterday, sorry for the crappy pictures:

The idea came from something my wife said a while back when I showed her a frame that had just come out the tumbler - "it looks like a piece of jewelery" she said. And since her birthday is coming up and since I am out of a job and don't have much to spend on her right now, I thought I would give it a try.
The frame has a wheelbase of 1", it is 3/4" wide, so it;s exactly 1/4 scale of a Jaildoor frame. The bracket was cut from a piece of 3/16" square tubing, and the rails are .020" brass rod. No droparm hinge and no pin tubes - I could not find small enough tubing for that! It still has to be tumbled and polished, then I will give it a coat of clear to be sure it doesn't tarnish, then put a little loop around the bracket brace and thread a thin gold chain through it - bingo a slot car pendant.
:D

I think it is one of a kind. It didn't look that small at all..I LIKE it....
Nice job Mr. D.

Thanks all!

The frame still has to be tumbled, so it will shine a lot more by the time it's done. I might also fit a little "heart" of wire into the space where the motor goes, since it is supposed to be jewelery.

Here's one I finished up early this week and raced on Tuesday night at Modeville Hobby, or rather my dad did as he forgot his Can Am at home. The chassis handled perfect right out of the box. All I added was a .005 guide spacer and the car was hooked. My intention was to build a light weight, heavy duty car for the king but I underestimated the amount of brass I was using. It took a couple of hits without any damage so it's definitely tough enough, but at 108grams it should make a great flat track Can Am or with a couple more grams a great Coupe car. Tried a few things different with this one.
Specs:
Guide lead 7/8"
Wheel base 3.950"
Nose piece is .032 brass
Slick 7 guide tongue
Chicagoland Backagra is .032
Outer rails are .078, inner rails are .055
JK hypoid bracket
.063 pans

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Great stuff Dennis, specially liked the jewelery frame. Have to say I hope that Bling won't see it because I could see it around his neck! :laugh2:
I sure hope the job situation is just temporarily.

By now you have heard rumor of a wild animal that escaped from Florida and made it's way to the North squealing all the way. Yes, out of the jig of Tony P came "Piggysaurus"; a new Aero design specifically to meet the challenges of the IRRA Stockcar class. It has the Swissablo necessary parts to include an engraved Noose JK F1 motor bracket. To enable it to squeal along even faster, it slipped into 2 sets of ball bearings. Weighing in at 65 grams naked, it worked it's weight up to an ideal weight of 133 grams and had it's lead shifted around a bit after the first photo was taken. Loaded with .450 wide Ghetto Wonder fronts, a TSR geared 9/28 and wearing it's Alpha Treated booties, it escaped from my box this weekend and joined forces with Bluto and D-Day from Animal House to form the Piggysaurus Deathmobile.

So how did the Pig of the North do? Quite well. To quote Mike Katz whom after giving it a run around the pen declared "Dang thing handles like a Can-Am car".

It's trainer is very, very happy as it took 1st place and set 2 new track records (total laps and fast race lap).

:shok: Interesting!
Are the main rails .062?

Better save that gear on the turbo-flex,I heard they don't make those type anymore. ;)

Here's a picture of my Christmas present this year from Joe "Jobiwan" McIntosh. If it's anything like the rest of his chassis it should be a jet. The picture came from my Droid so the lighting isn't the best. It's a JK kit from Chicagoland Raceway, non hypoid motor box, and dual .062 main rails.

When one of my new local racers Ken Hiorns,a real good driver, decided he wanted
to learn to scratchbuild, I told him I would be happy to give him some instruction.
Semi-unfortunately he decided his first project would be a fairly close copy of
the F1 car that I built that Chuck Gambo took a convincing 11 lap win on the flat track at the Sano and
the owner,Greg Wagensomer, qualified and finished 6th in his first major race, the F1 race
on the King. As tricky as this chassis is to build with soldered rails next to
ones that can't be, it turned out to be a collaborate effort, with Ken doing about
70-75% of the build and myself the remaining 25-30%.

Posted Image
It's built like a tank. Despite some spectacular wrecks by neophyte "Wags" with the original model
in the weeks leadind to the Sano, it survived to only lose to "heavy hitters", Ron Hershman, Jay Kisling
Matt Bruce,Terry Watson & Mike Iles in the A Main.

Posted Image
Instead of using conventional tie wrap to strengthen the front axle to the supports,
Ken used .100" wide solder wick. Being rosin impregnated it solders up real nice.

Posted Image
After taking this pic, it occurred to me, before he installs his bearings,
I might still have Ken add a top brace to the bracket area like shown
in the original model below.

Posted Image

Posted Image
Special thanks to Dennis Samson for turning me on to these Dremel
abrasive brushes for solder clean-up.
There are 3 different grits. I prefer the "white" one shown.
I think it's the medium model.

Posted Image
While I'm sure not as terrific as the $70 British pliers, PDL raves about,
these Husky pliers from Home Depot worked real well to do the multitude
of bends on the build. The .456" wide jaws were perfect to bend the .062
"U" braces that hold the inner shaker pans to the outer regular pans.
With the 2 extra interchangeable heads shown in the
pic, they sold for $4.88.
I guess that's why the Taliban hates us. :)

I may buy a few more pair and have the jaws ground down to different
widths for dedicated bends.

We are starting a new class at Fantasy Raceway in Rochester N.Y.

Right now the class is the JK 24 chassis with a falcon motor and 9/29 stock gearing with Retro bodies..

Being a little different I decided to build a JK kit chassis and see if it would run with the production chassis.. So this is what I came up with.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

I am happy with the way the chassis came out and ran against some of the production chassis last night and am glade to say it ran with them with no problems..

chassis weight is 105 grams with the body and as I can not stand the Falcon motors I am using a Puppy Dog with the same gearing.. Now all I have to do is talk the owner into letting the car into the class...

And seeing if I can get some of the other guys to do some building instead of running production chassis all the time...

You all are probably wondering what happened to me. Well, after several weeks of not being able to post pictures I finally figured out why. Damn Windows Vista! I'm now on Windows 7, still not convinced it's any better but at least I can post now.

I've been very busy the last 9 weeks building a big order for one of my very good customers. Below are some pictures showing what I have completed. Now, nothing for anyone else but me for awhile.

The above Retro Pro car will be raced at the Checkpoint Cup.

Next will be a whole bunch of 1/32 scale chassis. Let the solder melt!
