With the reports of a few broken guide posts, I was working on this project before I left on vacation.

After hearing of two more posts breaking at BP this Saturday, I'm going to go ahead and announce it and start to take orders and will start working on them in approximately one week.

Pinned with 1mm/.039" wire, from the top of the post, to almost the bottom of the blade, I'm only adding $1.00 to the price.

Unthreaded - $6.50.
Threaded - $7.00.

Six (6) piece minimum on orders for guide flags only (can be a combination of pinned and unpinned).

Smaller quantities can be ordered with orders that have other items on it.

20170620_171738-1.jpg

Shown with the pin all the way through.
I did this on a few to confirm the pin was in the approximately middle of the blade.

That is very slick. Gonna have to try that myself since the ones I have... uhhhhhhh... didn't come from Chicagoland Raceway.

I guess the good news is it seems to be happening only good hits on Gerding tracks.

BTW, I wonder if this is the first post ever on Slotblog from the top of Pike's Peak. LOL.

I had a good question.

I will continue to boil them, like I did for the last 100, or so.

Not genius, just bringing back a technique that has been used for quite a long time.

Consider the lowly guide flag...

The difference is the RF doesn't come with the hole molded in.

Yes, I realize that and you're using smaller wire than I did with the Parma guides, not that that should make any real difference.

In the computer world, Mike, what you're doing is called "value-added manufacturing." LOL...

Huh? Illegal modification? LOL.

There is mention of the guide flag in our rules. Maximum blade length and thickness.
The RF obviously meets that criteria.

P: In the Can-Am rules, section C-6.

You need a drill press holder for your Dremel.  :) Home Depot has a Milescraft rotary tool drill press holder for less than $35.

If you think you can get the hole in the middle of the post, and through the middle of the blade, every time, just using a drill press, I'll sell you some $5.50 guide shoes you can practice on. LOL.

I don't know if this is legal in iRRA, but if you want to protect your guide you could add this little wire around the front of it like Bryan Warmack did!! I don't think he's had a problem since adding this!!

Looks like the old Trinity "Flexi" stamped steel chassis idea. You hit the wall and bent the guard and you were done. But, at least the guide flag was ok.

Bryan might have installed it, but Philippe ran a wire flag protecter on his Retro cars three or four years ago. I run hardbody cars on a track with reduced voltage. We never break flags. :)

Here in Texas, a guy named Larry Wilman was cutting chassis with a bumper like that out of saw blades back in the '70s  Heavy sleds with C-can open motors.

Not an exact quote, but the best I can remember:

"Bumpers on slot car chassis are there to protect you and damage the other guy."

Larry was a punch it and hope kind of guy, so his chassis
were quite effective against the opposition.  :D

Brings to mind this cool chassis entered for the 2011 Dynamic Challenge Thingie proxy race.

I built this chassis in about '90 or so.
