I broke the post off an unpinned one this weekend. I was too lazy to switch to my pinned ones before the race. Lol

To go along with the 1,2,3 finish in F1, for the pinned RF guide, the 3rd place finisher in that race, Dale Yamashita took the win, in the CanAm, using one.

With the Sano, subsequent semi-recovery, and 3 parties this past weekend, I got way behind on pinned guides.

As of late, last night, I'm back on the drill press, and the gluing board. LOL

Gets/keeps them wet. Lol

Lack of moisture is a guide shoe's worst enemy....along with the wall.

I figured if I'm going to transport the guides, back and forth, to the raceway and home, in a closed container, I might as well keep them in water.

That's what I'm doing now.

At home, boiling guide shoes, eating 10 day old Portillo's pasta, leftover from the Sano, and livin' the dream. Lol

Pablo made a "enough for leftover's" donation. lol

On Sunday we ran through all the brisket, and almost, all the pulled pork, on the first trip thru.

I should of been suspicious, when the emailed invoice, from Uncle Bub's, was 25% less, than what it was supposed to be.

I would of inquired, but I was too busy, Saturday night, giving Howie the ass-beating of his life, on the Fielder Flat.

I took the extra $$$, and treated Jackie, to an all-expenses paid, round trip, to the movies.

With the Cubs (sort of) playing tonight, The raceway was quiet, and I was able to go at the pinning, pretty hard.

Well, I still haven't broken any posts, on the new Red Fox guide, while threading them, but I did break my GT1 threader, yesterday, while threading a pinned guide.

I switched over to a Backtrack Guide Buddy 2 which has a smaller ID than the GT1.

To facilitate using it, I cut two additional slots/flutes, at 3 and 9 o'clock, to go with the ones at 12 and 6 o'clock.

That helped quite a bit.

It's still not as effortless as the GT1, but it cuts a slightly deeper thread.

That deeper thread, makes getting my nylon nuts, started, much easier.

They also rotate on the post easier, but still hold their adjustment, real well.

The new, nice JK round nuts, that already get started easily, start even more effortlessly, rotate on the post with less effort, and again, still hold their adjustment real, real well.

So Mike, what do you think the threader of choice would be for someone like me that needs to replace one? PS.... on the ones I have gotten from you in the past, I had to chase the threads with a 10-32 die.

Yes, the GT1 cutter worked well for me, but it probably was because it wasn't cutting as crisp/deep.

The JK round nut still went on, and my cutdown nylon nuts also threaded on nicely, once you got them started, which was a bit of a pain.

When measuring the ID of the GT1 cutter, it was .003" or .004" larger, than the Backtrack.

But interesting, is that a 10-32 bolt threads, into both of them, with the same light effort, and feel.

If you get the Backtrack, I would add the extra slots and open up the existing ones.

When I went to 4 slots, I made them 2 (thin) Dremel 409 discs wide.

Since I posted this morning, I've opened them up, probably about, another half width of a disc, and it works even better.

But be aware, when threading a fresh post, you have to back out, periodically, to break off the plastic.

I didn't have to do that with the GT1.

I added the extra slots in my backtrack threader after breaking a post off in it, and it made a huge difference! Why have you been holding out on us mike?!?!? Lol

Been meaning to respond, but too busy shipping stuff and parties.

I assumed it would help, but I didn't have to try it, until I broke my GT1 threader

The weird thing, a little later in the day, after I posted #117, I made another attempt at fixing my GT1 threader.

Just grafting in a piece of piano wire across the break, and soldering it, did not work.

It would spread out, the further I threaded it down the post.

So I came up with the idea of putting a ring around the end.

I had a brass washer that was the right diameter.

I opened it up, sort of surprisingly easy, with my unibit.

Anyway it has worked crazy well, so far.

I've threaded about 3 dozen flags since I fixed it.

When I added the washer, the broken off part of the threader, apparently was just pinched in a little bit.

So my repaired GT1 threader now cuts a little deeper, in my opinion, as deep as the Backtrack.

But despite the deeper cut, I can go back to cutting the whole length of the post without having to back off.

If anything, it cuts easier, and backs out easier at the end of the cut.

Even though it still just has the stock 2 flutes/slots, it feeds the trimmed part, out one of the slots, in one long piece.

You can see a sample of the long shavings, it produces, in the picture below.

And to add to that, whatever mojo is going on with the repaired threader, it also leaves the top of the post slightly reduced in diameter, and my cutdown, nylon nuts, now go on, super-easy.

Congrats to Mike "Raisin" Garrett, on his CanAm win at the the ORS-KOR Race #2, at Tom Thumb, in Columbus, this past weekend, using a C/R pinned guide.

Also scoring podium finishes, this weekend, was Team Hi-Tech #2, with the win, and Team Old Skool, with a 3rd, at the Boola Bash NASCAR Enduro, at Buena Park Raceway.

Also congrats to Dale Yamashita, and Craig Corriea, on their 2nd and 3rd place finishes, in the F1 race.

And now that Bryan has the Can-Am results posted, from the Boola Bash, it appears C/R pinned guides swept the podium.

Big congrats to Jerry Johnson, Dale Yamashita, and Sam Rackham.

I've been made aware of all the broken non-pinned Red Fox guide's at the Fall Brawl.

With winter coming, and humidity dropping, the issue will just be getting worse, in the cold weather regions.

My dist. finally got more guide's to me, late last week.

This past weekend, in between hosting, both parties, and racing, I started drilling them.

So place your orders, and I'll get to them in order, ASAP.

Be aware, there is an existing big backlog, plus I am backed up in general, from being real sick last week.

We used the your pinned ones and didn't have any problems. Gave them a good test too as Matt was hit by everyone including the pace car.

Keep up the good work Mike.

The below picture has been circulating on FB, with the poster, commenting in the thread "pinned guides don't work".

A few facts;

1-The below, broken pinned guide, was not pinned by me.

2-It was pinned by a local racer.

3-Said local racer used .039" wire- after the first hundred or so, I switched to .047" wire.

4-Said local racer made a poor choice of adhesive.

5-Said local racer hit a stationary car, 2/3rds down the straightaway, with a C can powered GTP car.

6-to say pinned guides don't work is highly inaccurate.

7-I've sold about 700, and I haven't heard of a case of one breaking in a race.

I'm sure it will eventually happen, but in the case of the Fall Brawl, all the ones that broke, were non-pinned, while quite a few of the racers were running my pinned ones.(and somehow, as already alluded to, no one broke any of those)
