However...:
Racing, even Proxy racing requires knowledge of many possible conditions in order to be successful!
There is no information posted or shared about the surface condition of the Hillclimb track. An important issue.
What are the recommended tires? I understand that last year, there were entries that could not get adequate traction.
What is a recommended gear ratio?
In Proxy events of the past there was a little more data discussed, there is virtually none here.
Why no official information from the promoter?
My entries always come back wrecked and blown to pieces, so in order to prepare a bullet-proof car info data is required.
Yes I know it is months away but in order to feel good about this I raised my issues.
Forget the total lack of promotion...
Once again I am all-in just needed clarity.

For this trial run session I have installed "Silicone Foamie" rear tires as that is what is used at my local track.
Any fine tuning will then be planned by the results of early run testing.
Then bullet proof it for sending in when the time comes.

Max, is your local track a club track? Not many commercial tracks allow silicone tires anymore, yet some clubs still run them. When I first started racing at a commercial raceway in 1967, they required you to run silicone tires.

The track I run on is a 180' Engleman and is located in the Wonderland Mall at IH10 & Loop 410.
Honeycutt sells track braid for other commercial tracks that also want to allow for magnet traction.
Silicone Foamie tires make so much sense than all that glue crap!
Anyway, soft foam tires will be used for the 3rd Annual Shinoda Reunion event.

Thanks for the details Max - that is rather interesting, didn't think any commercial tracks were still running silicones!
We banned silicones for our big vintage race in Bordo in June, just too much difference in grip, and lots of griping, but the more informal event in December allows anything (except glue...), and the silicone-coated spongies are the favorites for the higher performance cars.
Nice looking track by the way.

I don't get it. You run coated sponges on Monday, then they clean the track, but you still have to remove crud from the slots with a screwdriver and the track is gunky dirty and braid is full of gunk
Am I reading it wrong?

In a way, it makes sense: no more tire treatments and you don't have to change tires so often!
We banned them in Bordo (and Boston...) because a lot of folks couldn't or didn't want to find silicones (the modern silli-coated spongies are too wide for most of our vintage cars), and the traction was too uneven, leading to a lot of complaining about grip - since changing, nobody's griped... well, not much for an average slotter!
And using mainly urethanes, we get pretty much the same advantages as the sillies.

Max, i only asked where you raced because I had mistakenly thought New Braunfels was just east of Dallas. Sorry! I'm aware of Jim Honeycutt being located in San Antonio. He's been on the slot car boards for at least 20 yrs. Does he currently have just the Engleman track set up? That's a genuine Stan Engleman-built track.

Paul, we are the last group to run on the track BEFORE they clean it at the end of the night. They wipe the track surface with Coleman fuel, but never vac anything or clean the braids and slots. The track is so dirty that it ends up in the slots, they spray it every Mon after they clean it, which just gunks up the trash that is in the slot. Every few weeks we run a screwdriver thru the slot to get the crud balls out. It surprises me the regular glue racers don't do this. But, they do break out racing, so max performance of their cars is not necessary as they don't actually race each other, just watch the computer screen. Running the same combo as we run, their breakout is 1 1/2 to 2 seconds slower than what we run. Doesn't take rocket science to slow a car down 2 secs a lap on a King . Max performance of the car and track is not necessary when you are just lapping the track.
Thanks Matt, that makes sense now. Breakout racing is so weird. I can visualize them coming to a race and inspecting the track - "Ohh yeahhh, nice and grungy with little snot nuggets. That oughta slow us down real nice"

Just do your best.
Yes I saw your chassis and looks very vintage style race ready, it should do just fine. I did see some vintage science in your chassis.
I like this Shinoda event, mainly just seeing and talking the past good times and all the vintage stuff.
If you need anything let me know.
