JJ, you keep asking that question and no one seems to have an answer. BTW, that jaildoor chassis is awesome. How do you keep the solder flow so clean?

Car is called The Mako Shark a fitting tribute to Larry Shinoda & the paint was inspired by the concept cars of the same name.
Body is a Mongoose or Worlok from Genes World.
Chassis is a Detroit Slider built by Pete from Racer X Customs.
Motor is a Hemibuchi with a U-GO arm she gets hot quick so she is going to need some care.
Car is fast it could compete in our retro classes down here.
Thanks Tom.

Thanks John I use a Eutectic solder of 63/37 . has the lowest melting point of tin/ lead solder.it melts and hardens at the same temp. 183c and dries shiny.

Made some more headway on the Shinoda project.
Hi, total noob here and was curious as to what this body was known as? I've looked through all of Gene's and Jarius's photos on Shinoda bodies but don't really see anything exactly like it. Is there a chance it's like a custom mash together of a Lamprey, Small Bus and P?
Thank you, great looking scheme!

What Jairus said, "Lampray".
Thanks, appreciated. Are there any guidelines to soldering chassis' that would be most accurate to this era?

Lots of examples shown on this forum and in Slot Cars Magazine and Car Modeler.
Your question is a bit vague so send me a PM and I can give you specifics.
Or better yet, copy one of the cars already shown.

I guess I was looking for a detailed example like what Gene just posted because I assumed they had to be homoligated at least to a certain degree. I come from R/C racing where the manufacturers that build racing kits have to abide by a rulebook to a certain degree to have their vehicles legal for national and world championship events, and I assumed slot cars wouldn't be exact but somewhat similar to that.
Sorry, I was asleep at the wheel!

Jonathan,
Hope you join in here, you are most welcome.
In addition to Slot Cars, I also raced competition karts since 1975. Karts as well have to undergo homologation procedures in order to race at International events.
They are governed by a division of the FIA known as the CIK.
Racing thingies from the 60's did not require that as they were a wild and free form for many years, often with NO rules (barely).
That said, there is an accepted style of slot car chassis construction that is adhered to, and for "period correct" that refers to 1968 standards and before.
For the years after that, equipment changed and cars got wider and newer motor parts also came on to the market.
BTW I still love the 1/10th Electric 4WD buggies, best of that world.

Sweet, I never raced karts but my dad did when he was younger, usually 125 cc shifters, he still had one up until a few years ago. I had a go in it once at Roebling Road in Bloomingdale Georgia in late 2011 but after that it sat for a couple of years and then he sold it. I'll have to see if I have any images of it, not sure what the chassis was but it was a Rotax engine.
Yeah, 1/10 4wd is a great class, it kind of got shoved aside when short course really took off but now that short course has kind of plateau'd it's back to being pretty popular.
