I have started a map of slot car track locations globally. It seems like a perfect companion to the amazing list that has been created here. I would love to find a way to link the listings in this site with the pins on the map. There must be a way.

I had already created a Google map of my area, so imported mine to yours. :)

Just received the following info from a West Coast member:

The disappointing results so far suggest that the vast majority of racers are unwilling or uninterested in helping their raceways even in this small manner. This mirrors what we've seen from the raceway owner community itself, which seemingly won't take advantage of what is free advertising for their businesses (some do, but most don't). And, as has been mentioned elsewhere, the slot car distributors have traditionally declined to contribute to maintaining a decent public raceway listing, citing the proprietary nature of their customer lists.

There is a site on the Web called Munzee that lets you print a QR tag and put it at your location. There are literally tens of thousands of individuals who use their smart phones to search out these tags from a map of the world. I have placed one at my track and also the local R/C store. I also placed more of them at local points of interest so it would be more attractive to those seeking "Munzees" because there were a number of them to capture.

This is probably more of interest to techies, but there is probably at least one at your track that could do this for you. This has brought in quite a few visitors to our track over the last few months. Maybe some of them will either return to race, or will mention the track to their friends.

I know of an HO racing group called the "East Coast Outlaws" but no Outlaw Raceway. Not to say it doesn't exist of course.

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

Greg,

It is Jairus Watson's home track and he posted detail info and pictures somewhere on here... maybe in the Balls Out Choti thread as he did his testing there.

There is a reopened (after about ten years) track in Richmond, VA, near Richmond International Airport. The track is Indoor Motorsports and is on Williamsburg Rd.

As of now the business has a HN 72 foot tri-oval and an 1/8 mile drag strip. Drag racing is on Tuesday and oval track racing is on Thursday and Friday. Thursday has the mighty Womps with sealed 501 motor and the second race is for 4" Flexi NASCARS using Parma 502 motors. Friday racing is FCR with the 501s and what is called Imston Cup Cars using a 4.5" current flexi frame and you can use a Parma or Pro Slot S16D.

The gentleman who runs this track is well versed on current slot cars and he also has extensive knowledge of Vintage cars as well as some parts. As all slot tracks do, this one is doing OK this summer, however, looks to have a very large fall and winter program.

The owner also has a HN 155 King witch is still in storage and looks to the day when that track will also be up and running.

If you are in the Richmond Va. area be sure to give Andrew a call and give him a chance to offer first rate service for your slot car racing fix and parts.

Jim,

The Wallburg entry was already marked with a late 2013 closing date and I simply had forgotten to delete it.

The Asheville was marked as closed due to water damage to the tracks with the advice to call before visiting. that entry has been now been deleted.

Granite City's last race was May 27 and it was also deleted an hour ago, as was the Eden track which I just learned about very early this morning.

Thanks, Jim, to you and the several others who let me know about the corrections needed in the North Carolina track listings.

It pains me that I had to delete four raceway entries in a single day. Don't think I've ever done that before...

I find the raceway list here a good resource, but it seems difficult to find reliable when it isn't regularly updated. It's also difficult when the tracks themselves do little for self promotion. It seems like in this day, it would be easy to find some reliable information  from a well-trafficed site like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc. I stopped by one track that I thought I knew about close to me, Eclipse Hobbies and Raceway in Bradley, IL, and it was closed. I'm hoping it was only closed for the night, and not for good. Their name was still on the wall, so I hope that's a good indication.

I used to race a lot in the mid and late '90s, but we know how things went for this hobby shortly after that. I'm in the south Chicago suburbs, and remember places like Speed World in Chicago Ridge, and Place to Race in Orland Park and later Tinley Park. Anyone in the area know those have long since closed up.

Good points, Chris :good: .

Nobody has worked harder at trying to keep Slotblog's raceway list current than Greg Wells ("Cheater").

But, like you said, many raceways don't self promote. Hard to understand, since Slotblog provides this service for free.

It seems like in this day, it would be easy to find some reliable information from a well-trafficed site like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc.

The quality of info on slot car raceways on the sites you mention is poor at best; it certainly isn't very reliable. I know, because I use most of them as sources of info to populate Slotblog's Raceway List.

Please understand that most of the entries in the Raceway List come about because I see a mention of a raceway somewhere and start hunting down the info needed (though MG Brown has been a big help with the list!). I've been known to call raceways seeking the info for their entries. I used to request pics of their tracks when I couldn't snag them from their website or Facebook page, but almost never bother to do so any more, as fewer than 1 in 10 will actually follow through on pics, even though they'll tell me on the phone they will get them to me.

As I posted years ago, the "industry" doesn't seem to have any interest in an accurate and current raceway list, the raceway owners themselves, as a group, seemingly don't feel it is important, and only a very few racers ever contact me with updated raceway info.

As best I can tell, Chris, you and I are just about the only guys who feel the need...

Something I think might help with the maintenance of the raceway list by the track owners would be an accompanying records board for fastest laps and total laps in races to date for the various classes ran at the raceway. This would only be updated by the track owners with a password to the thread for their track.  Racers would like to see their names in lights and the track owners would be under presurre to update the list. How much work could it be? How often do records fall?

Hi everyone! Wanted to let everyone know Fantasy Raceway, 3787 Dewey Ave.in Rochester,N.Y. has been saved! I have just taken ownership of the facility and will be open during renovations. We have a 145 ft Ogilvie Euro hill climb and have almost finished a complete rebraid. Also a Lapmaster computerised timing and scoring system along with a state of the art power supply will be added soon. We also have a 1000 ft scale drag strip. We've got a lot more work to do but if your in the area, stop in and say hello or renew old friendships. Rodger will be there at least until October 1st when I take over the reins. We're open everyday except monday. Call us at (585)621-1373. The answering machines broke but we're working on that too!
