Pink goodness Rick.
Looking forward to seeing it in the chassis.

Here's a tip. If you every want to torment someone, task them with putting 3 lead wires per side on an end bell drive angle winder.
That's how I spend most of today but the chassis is fully built out:
I use a bit of hindsight and shortened up Bob's rear axle brace to allow the L-brace for the motor to snug up next to it instead of on top of it:
Luckily the Elfin body is just high enough in back to allow the lead wires to run on top of the motor instead of wrapping around the back of the can:
Now it's all about the body......

Rick, pure jewelry. But why a "Mura-Cukras" motor, Cukras was the enemy and adversary of the Emott clan...

Yeah, Champion was his thing. Didn't want to mention it, but now the cat is out of the bag.

Hi Philippe and Jairus.
The cat has been out of the bag since post #3 of this thread:
For this "inspired by" build I'll be doing what I did as an avid local slot racer back in 1968. That is, eagerly await the latest newsletter and magazine to see what the "big boys" were building. Then I'd build my own version using their design ideas and the components I liked best or that were available to me at the time.
I really like Bob's 2nd place chassis and I might even use some design features from his other 3 Pro Main chassis in this build. His designs were so innovative.
I lived in Southern California at that time so for my motor choice I'm going with a West Coast motor rather than the Eastern Kean Kan motor in Bob's cars.........
I tried to follow Bob's chassis design ideas from two of his main event cars closely not only because he was "The Man" but because I really liked them. Then I used the period correct components that I like and had available to finish the car. And I love those Playboy Pink Cukras motors!

Rick, got it, thanks!
Makes perfect sense. Beautiful build in any case, but then we are used to your perfection by now. We are lucky to have quite a few examples of your gorgeous work on display at the LASCM and I have suggested that Scott should organize a special display case just for your cars and those of Paul Dwyer.

I've finally got all the detailing goodies gathered up. The body is kind of weird in that the windscreen is huge and extends all the way down low to the front axle. The rear of the body is quite high so the interior piece needed some attention to get the driver to sit right:
All the goodies ready for paint. It's supposed to be nice weather next week so I can open the lid on my "garbage can spray booth"
Now I need to do some spray outs to choose a color..............

In the 1960's and early 1970's I attended every race at Riverside International Raceway I could. I even met my wife there.
I got to see a lot of different and very cool cars racing and even motorcycles:
I mention this because I really love this era of racing cars. While I'm not a "rivet counter" type of modeler I do want my slot cars to at least resemble its real counterpart.
In fact, in 1968 many races still had concours events such as the October 1968 Nutley Arco pictured below. Two of the three cars are quite "scale" and one is a bit more fanciful but still quite detailed:
So I'm gathering up my Elfin pictures to see what version I'd like to build.............

Hi Martin,
That is indeed a good looking Elfin 360 but...........I was about to say what PdL had said about this Russkit body in the past when he chimed in on the subject.........Hi Philippe.
Yes, I'm planning on using the Elfin 400 for this build. It's funny that I'm trying to make it look like a real car when Russkit almost made a thingie out of the body. That's OK. Like I said I'm not a rivet counter but I'll try to make it look like a car.
Along with the cars PdL posted here are pictures of the cars I like:
Martin, you should build the British version. That would be super cool.

I did see the red with the yellow stripe, but that's not the same body you have. So was looking for a real car with the body you have.
Love the British green elfin. I also had a thing for white body lines back in the day.

The Russkit body has, as I said, quite a bit of thingie in it. It does not really exactly match any Elfin I've seen. PdL has said in the past that the Russkit Elfin is supposed to be the 400 version so that's what I went with. Also I thought the Russkit body came out before the version of the car you showed was built??? The Elfin 360 is a 1971 build as I understand it.

I've always thought that the Elfin body was suppose to be the 1969 Australian Group A Elfin ME5. Maybe Russkit got an advanced view of that Elfin because I think the slot car body looks a lot like the picture of the ME5 below. Got to admit that the windshield isn't the same but the Slotcar body really does look like a combination of the earlier and later cars.

Jay, that's a later car.
Russkit by the way had a more realistic Elfin 400 body and it was going to be a RTR car, but the market had tanked by then. Here is a factory sample obtained many years ago from Ron Klein's widow:
The mold ended up with Ron Klein's "Shark" company, and he produced this body for Select if I recall.
The Elfin body they marketed was designed for pro racing, so as Rick said, it is a bit of a thingy but it looks great.

OK, since I'm working with a body that Russkit took a bit of creative license with, I will add a bit of that creative license with my livery.
I really like the orange with a yellow stripe of this car:
And the silver polished aluminum tub and body colored wheels of this one:
So I did four spray outs of oranges and light reds:
And bingo, I lucked out again with a decent paint job from my trash can spray booth:
Next is the detail painting of the body and interior..........
